As it was for most people in the UK last Sunday, Brooklands was blessed with hot and sunny weather - not the usual case for our end of May show
We usually blame the poor forecast if the numbers seem to be down on previous years but they looked to be down for this one too, so maybe a general trend of people voting against entry prices and / or petrol prices by staying at home
But we still had a good mix of Mopars and other makes, as shown by our Top 5 awards! Once again, Derek asked me & Stu to pick a car each. He and daughter Karen picked one each as well. As Pete couldn't make it, Derek also chose the fifth one.
Being awkward, Stu and I both agreed on 2 non-Mopars and chose the 1970 Mercury Colony Park wagon and the 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser - both low mileage and largely unrestored. We would also have given Carsten and award for bringing his 68 roadrunner from Germany, but Karen had already picked him! Derek's 1st choice was the 66 Charger, then added the 68(?) Mustang as our 5th... I'm sure Pete would have approved!
Sure, we had Gavin's 71 Challenger, Vince's 66 Coronet and many more to-die-for Mopars there, but awards are only given out once, and those I mentioned, plus many other's have all been on the receiving end before.
The hot weather was always going to potentially spoilt the day, if the M25 did its usual Sunday afternoon thing, but thankfully it was as free-flowing as we've ever seen it, so no worries there
