Mancini stainless sender lock ring

Brand new lock ring for fuel sender - mine is leaking since new tank.
Had an order going in anyway so thought I’d get the stainless lock ring.

This is it in my workbench - does not sit flat against rubber gasket.

I think I am wasting my time fitting it. Or is this normal and they deform flat ?

That looks too distorted to hope it will straighten out when installing.

I personally would try straightening by tapping down with a piece of brass & hammer. Hard to tell from photo, but might even be able to flatten in a vice.

you can see its is thinner in the arc of the bend like they did it deliberately.... i.e pressed like that rather than damaged in transit.
odd or maybe not maybe that's a new way to lock it?

if that ring is used to pull something smooth and flat onto the rubber. in a tank--- rubber----- tank sender-----lock ring sandwich... maybe its ok.
If that ring is supposed to clamp the rubber with nout between it, and the rubber, id think that is not ok
if it looks like it will break the tank...stop...

stainless steel has vastly different properties, depending on the alloy, from the original mild steel used as standard. maybe they have to get "medieval on it's ass" to get it to work i.e how springy is springy enough? when you change the material of the locking component...

Thanks chaps.
Its not the outer bit I am worried about - obvs the bend is what presses against the tabs on the tank to 'press' the seal.
But I felt that surely the inner part of the ring should be flat - to effectively seal it needs a flat surface. It just doesnt smell right to me.

I think this presses on the sender unit itself, which is the flat bit that has the rubber behind, so this might be OK and its the kick up that provides the pressure to seal it.

the bit in horizontal plane is also slightly concave

SPoke with Matt last night - I think he is right. Because the sender presses against the rubber seal, it doesnt matter if this ring is 100% flat - just that it is TIGHT. It pushes against the sender. So long as it does it evenly-ish thats good enough.
