God I'm bored of sanding now! I spent most of the weekend on it and I'm not half way there yet :shock:
I've laid lots of filler on the 'glass hood now, with still more needed.
I'm wishing now I'd left it matt black :roll:

It'll all be worth it Paul when finished!!......and to Bananarama! off with that lovely paint job......the next thing on the ajenda is to swap that 4spd for a full manual Auto, a decent 4000 verter and some slicks and go and do what that car is built for....10 sec 1/4's :thumbright: ...it only takes ££££'s ;)

Not saying its not possible with a 4spd, it only needs a Good clutch and shifter.....but mucho easier and less expensive in the long run, and if you build that Auto with a few holes drilled in the clutch pack it'll tear your neck to pieces on the shift, just like your 4spd can, and my 340 box did, its gotta happen mate!! 8-) ....just gotta win the lottery eh?

Ahh! You might persuade me one day mate but I need to have a lot more fun with the 4-spd first ;)

I'll definitely have a kick-ass clutch in there for next years Nats if I can work out the best deal- very bewildering when you really look into them!

After another (TOO) long break, I'm starting back on the car :D

I fitted the last two rocker just shipped at shocking expense from the miserable toads at Indy.
The rocker shafts are now torqued down and clearances all adjusted to 18 thou. I suspect the new pushrods will bed in so I'll be re-checking the lash after the first drive of the car.
I'm having to do this VERY carefully as the wings are still bare primer so any oil or grease on them would be a very BAD thing!

Well done, Paul.

I am sure you have done your research but 18 thou sounds a bit tight to me, especially on the Exhausts.....

Thanks for checking up on me mate :thumbright:

Hot lash figs from the Ultradyne cam card are .016" for In and Ex. (just checked that's right)

I then followed Dave's advice- Get the car nice n hot after a run. Set lash to hot figures. Go away for a bit. Re-measure when cold = .018".

If you think that sounds wrong I'll re-check my hot measurements once I get it moving again.

Inlet back on tonight. What a twat of a job!
No rubber end gaskets so a big fat bead of black rtv at each end and I'm re-using the paper gaskets so a skim of sealant on those too, also to stick 'em in place!
Of course I lower the inlet gently into place and it's trying to push the gaskets down.
Then the bolt holes don't quite line up.
Then you can only get a spanner on most of the bolts with about 1/8th of a turn of room.
Then some of them bottom out as they're slightly different lengths and I've got them mixed up.
Then I dig out the torque settings for an ally manifold, which seems to be 25-30lb.
Then realise I can't even get the damn torque wrench on 8 out of 12 bolts so that was pointless... :?
Anyway, they're precisely hand torqued to: as-tight-as-I-can-get-with-a-3/8-spanner-until-my-hand-really-hurts.
I'm now on the cider...

if its a 2 minute job to pull them valve covers paul, i would fire the mtr warm it up then pull the covers check everything is oiling ok and just go back through your lash, its worth doing before going down the road, as i know it was valve/rocker probs you had and cost a pretty penny, i know it was abuse at the track but you can,t be to carefull,,,,

Everything wired and plumbed now except the new ignition.
I've started making a mounting plate for the coil but lateness meant no more Mister angle grinder :(

Gonna get some Asda oil tomorrow to flush the motor.
The cams, lifters, etc are plastered with Joe Gibbs assembly paste so I can safely get it hot, dump it, then refill with my fancy Joe Gibbs high zinc.

Looking good Paul, almost identical to what mine looked like cept for the covers and small tube headers ;)
