Getting there! Hassle though it may seem, the seats are only held in with 4 bolts each and it makes lying on your back so much easier. That’s what I always do, there’s just too much of me…

worst time i ever had to deal with that was with a 'shortina' i built. 3 foot shorter than stock with the doors welded shut. i had to change the speedo cable a week after finishing it, that was fun...... not

Well, after the worlds worst holiday, trapped in the Lakes in a flooded valley, just got home after 7 hours stuck on motorways to some new toys, so all is not lost.

Looking forward to a dry day tomorrow to get the tach mounted and hopefully going for a drive.

A lot of fiddly gentle manipulation and bending and drilling of brackets and fittings and plates today, just to get to a near final mock up.

I think this is my best solution without drilling the dash at the moment. Not entirely happy with the fit of the plate, so will cut another one, but the before and after shows that the positioning gives much better visibility that before. Need to get some small bolts to hold the bracket rather than screws too.

i'd be tempted to use mdf instead of ally, you could get the right thickness so it sits flush with the dashpad. mdf will prime and paint just fine with aerosols so no bother there.

I’d like to get it flush, but the tach won’t fit there with it flush, sadly, not enough clearance to the windscreen. I’ve been round the houses trying to work out how to do that, but think having it recessed is the only way without having to drill the dash.

Just get some that fit and cut the bolts down with an angle grinder - fit the nut first so you can run it off to clear the thread after smoothing down - sorted!

It’s alright, I was mostly bemoaning that I couldn’t use the tach cup I got from America as it’s too small, I ordered the same size as the tach without thinking, so it’s identical size to the casing.

Thanks for the thought on the bolts, yes I can cut some down, but need M3 really and don’t have any handy, plus wanted black and preferably Allen bolts, so I’ve ordered some correct stuff. Can’t put it all together until it’s painted anyway, so time for them to get through the post yet.

I’m partial to a flange head bolt myself, No doubt you can get them in black.

ok let me think...... cut the mdf as a trim piece to fit on top of the ally you have already there with a neat cutout (in the mdf) for the tach bracket. the tach would end up almost flush with the mdf/dash top that way.
