England would inherit the whole of the UK Debt without a currency union. Something they will not accept. Not to mention that the UK's Debt is propped up on 'Taratan Oil'

Because there is 10 times more barstewards in England than in Scotland. Thats what caused this issue in the first place.

How about England respect us as an individual nation and leave us the F@@@ alone?

Sorry mate. Just a thought. ;)
Personally I have no problem with Scotland being an individual nation.
If that did affect my life I'm sure I would cope.

Well begging you pardon its not much of a thought is it? Its akin to celebrities covering themselves in cold water in the pretense of charity.

Im talking about ears to the floor genuine reports. And even then I still believe Oil is not the be all and end all.

You are naive, or at least for the now. Maybe you'll get to continue in your ideological bliss if the No Votes somehow wing it. But reality will hit and hit hard when the 'Tartan Oil' no longer flows into England's Coffers.

Of course there will be cons at first, lots of them. No project starts of smoothly initially.

I know there is no utopia in this life, but if there is anything close to it it's Norway/Scandinavia. Have you ever been over? Id love to hear your views on thier model if you have , if not.....well..... you know....;)
:sleepy2:

I've not made a big deal about oil, I've just referred to you many previous posts in relation to it......which you again talk about in your second paragraph above......stating the same Political line!

As for me being naive and having ideological thoughts on this........that's the second time you've thrown that out there.......it's called an OPINION................ Or am I not allowed to have one without being treated with contempt?

I do find it quite astounding that an educated man like yourself can make such informed decisions about someone without A) ever meeting them or B) having any idea about there life, expertise or knowledge base bar what they post on here.......a car forum!

Bar some of my attempts at humor in some of my posts, you seem to a missed that in every post I refer to the fact I don't have the answers for everything, I don't know how it will pan out and more importantly in one of my first posts........I just don't care!

Would it be better to stay united.......probably, but that's because it's what is known with historical FACT!

I do not believe either Country will fall to its knees if they separate, but as I have said NO ONE can.....it's partly a venture into the unknown!

Let's hope that the project having a jittery start does not turn either into the next economic leper!

Do you really believe that the Salmond is not putting out as much spin as Darling?

I think BJ hit the nail on perfectly!

As for your last q about my knowledge of Scandinavia.......I won't even bother to justify it with an answer! :mytwocents: :mytwocents: :mytwocents:

Well begging you pardon Dave can you remind me what your opening salvo was?

Just to set the scene I'll quote it;

OH..........MY GOD!!!

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITHOUT TARTAN OIL............... :runaway!:

The only reason I refer to oil is because others feel the need to.

Lets not forget that North Sea and the Atlantic Ridge are mostly in Scottish waters.

Scottish Oil is beyond essential to the economy of the UK. Its keeping the UK's Deb afloat. Its what pays off the interest of the loans instead of building up a country.

I dont want to presume on your income or lifestyle Dave but I would hazard a guess its a million miles away from anything that involves diplomacy? Just curious. :)

Readings not you strong point either then.........bottom of page 2......
Dave81 wrote:My view, no that I really care either way tbh....

If they become independent they run the risk or going into financial hardship and becoming the poor cousin of England. If we hit a bad recession than I can see them going like Portugal/Ireland/Spain and Greece.

If they want independence, then why do they want to keep the pound and the royal family......Cake and eat it.

If you want to become independent then be independent.....Own currency and Grants and Bells as Royalty!

Its no better than the kid that leaves home, gets a flat but goes back to mom and dads for tea everynight!!

Personally if I were Scottish I'd want to stay part of the big picture.....Safety in number and size.

Never could understand the Scottish hate towards the English?

Will I now need a passport to get past the wall?
You then refer to oil again, saying its others.......then put another two paragraphs about it YET AGAIN stating the English will suffer post split due to lack of oil money.........how do you know this to be true......FACT....YOU DON'T!

Nobody does.......it's just SPIN.....Bananarama! me Ray Charles can see its spin!

You read independence propaganda then come here and spew it then claim as you 'work' in the industry that you know better than everyone and that it's fact! It ain't.......but if it helps you sleep, you believe it!

I hope for your sake that you gain independence and enjoy a fruitful Scandinavian future!

Like the rest of us here.......I'll not lose sleep either way!

Having an opinion is fine, but down talking to people who dare to have a differing opinion to you, is to me a bit beyond the line!

Also, income and lifestyle is not related to knowledge base or expertise..........oh and for your info Nuclear Physicist and £120k a year plus bonus based in Oslo! :thumbright:

As Duncan Bannatyne says.......I'm OUT!

Yeah well, as I alluded to Andy, we have a lot in common, you want to leave the UK & if we had our way, we'd offer you every assistance to do so.

However, sadly this one is even beyond the power of the MMA & we'll have to wait for all the other sweatys to cast their votes.

tick follows tock...

I tend to pass that pay around the August/September Mark, regardless I never intended this to turn into a personal slagging match. Ive drank too much to deal with the 'points' you've raised.

Clearly some people are taking this way more seriously than others. If we could just stick to a discussion of the merits of Scottish Independance that would be great, :)

Orkney and the Shetland Isles want independence from mainland Scotland too,how will THAT work?

Good question and one I'm surprised took you so long to ask. :D

As they are both within Scottish Waters should they wish to have independence, (and why should they not if that is their wish) they would be classed as an Enclave and are entitled to a 12 mile sea limit. Do you know how much oil is found within that 12 mile limit?

I'll leave that for you to investigate. ;)

I know, over half of all known reserves in Scottish waters. So if the islands gained full and proper independence and controlled the oil in their waters, where would that leave mainland Scotland?
