I have been considering it, but in all honesty can’t imagine how many times I’d actually use it.

everything goes in now ive got it bath taps, rollers off the shower door , wifes engament ring, wach cases, records, bits of car, bits of recod player.

The tin opener came up good years of bean juice removed off the cutting wheel:)
sturmey gear hub went in complete in parafin with the spindles loosened got a load of gunge out. oiled it and it worked ok again, was sticking before

relativly new fangled i am

anything with a kind of furry corrosion that you could rub off if you could get access comes up kinda ok

works nice with parts wahser fluid in. but do it outside and watch the temp

won't de rust things but i use a plastic bucket and a school science power supply for that.... tired acid and its just messy and dangerouse

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered one. I found another carb I can clean up and move on and there are some other parts I can use it for as well, so will give it a go.

What do you use in yours, Dave? I’m told deionised water plus some sort of cleaner may be best?

depends what it is that needs cleaning

if you think it would work applied manually and it won't damage the item its fair game....

i have used all sorts
standard parts cleaner or parafin
good for oily varnished nasty bits of car

although the kind of disinfectant floor cleaner/degreaser/polish used in schools and hospitals works quite well as well.
it tends to degrease without the use of an oil based or thinners based action i.e the thing ends up grease free but gritty

for records i used deionised water and isopropanol 70:30

i have used tap water and washing machine liquid. foams less than washing up liquid i.e for things that would normally see that kind of stuff

if the thing doesn't mind alkali soda crystals or diswasher tablets can work, this can make stainless get a kind black tarnish or will eventually turn aluminium or pot metal a darker grey

the main gist of it is leave it for a long time doing its thing, its not a "Right before Your Eyes" magic cleaner. it takes a while...
you are using it to clean the bits you can't reach or are too convoluted or down a blind hole, to get access to, with your favorite bristle brush
avoid drilling out all the little lead plugs in a carb body... etc etc

main thing to remember is the ultrasonic action heats the cleaning fluid all by itself so if using something volatile or flammable best place for the work to be done is outside, you don't want to stink out the place or blow yourself up.... check it every hour or so for temperature you don't always need the in built heater. use that if the solvent is water based only....

nice-clean, parts-washer fluid from machine mart works well on spark plugs...
but any bulk packaged unbranded brake or carb cleaner off ebay would also work

or a big tin of thinners

if usuing indoors stick a box over it. the buzzing will invariably annoy one of the familiy and its all YOUR fault....etc etc etc


i tend to look up the "magic in a bottle" on google. find a US brand that cost a fortune and is hard to get here
thn look up a uk equievlent and you often find similar is made by some factory in the backend of nowehere in the UK and sells for few £


the other option when nothing works is TSP

its kinda nasty stuff but Boy does it clean its alkaline it can also soften/remove paint its not good for you or the environment...BUT get used in dishwasher tablets decortaors wall and wood work cleaner is used as a food additive..... just be careful.... we are not talking caustic soda wrongness or hyrdrocloric acid wrongness its just not very nice treat it like you would old petrol or used engine oil...... i.e wash hands and don't imbibe it, breathe it... or let it seep through your skin.

i used it for removing grout mildew mould and the kinda greasy gunge tennets oooze all over everything when i had a rental flat.
its the landlords fall back to remove traces of the last lot who didn't pay their rent.

will make white spots on your jeans and give you sore hands........!

In the meantime, this just turned up!

Didn’t realise I’d ordered the digital one by mistake.

No idea what I’m doing now, but will be playing with bits of old carb as soon as I figure out how it works.

every batch Vevor gets is slightly different

its cheap and competant chinese stuff...
as long as you don't read the instructions which will be in chinglish you'll be fine.
suggest you swap to a UK kettle/computer lead with a UK plug.

its a metal thing with water and eletcricity in it

the lead and adapter that is sometimes supplied has no earth pin connected...

its illegal to sell them like that so you are within your rights to have a go at VEVOR if they didn't send the right lead

PS the right hand side is a timer for the cleaning routine
the left hand side is the heater

the display above heater settings works if heater is on or off which is useful for keeping an eye on temp increases caused by untrasound

most relevenat when doing LP records (no more than 35* otherwise they go all bendy)
not that relevant with a hunk of aluminium

you just need one o these now and you can clean your old shawadywady LPs

Thankfully, it arrived with the correct plug, so all good.

You are right about the Chinglish, my personal favourite is “When the item is smeary of extraordinary dirty”

yep, i've seen chinese plugs with a bit of bar soldered in where the fuse should be

Well this one definitely has a fuse in it, but it’s a moulded plug so will have to see what happens…

Currently, I’ve had to pitch it outside as the crazy strong Chinese shipping chemical smell was killing me…

yes that lead will have been added in the UK
it came so quick it must be from UK wharehouse
somone will have taken it out of the box added a lead and checked it worked.
i.e better to pay £5-£10 more from VEVO than just get from aliexpress

its the times when the ship direct from china that you get shonky bits

Yep, ordered direct from their uk site and arrived far quicker than quoted in a couple of days, so from UK definitely.

Cleaning fluid arriving tomorrow, so Saturday will be spent filling it with items smeary of extraordinary dirty.

thats what rusty and covered in crap translates as...

there is an app for you phone. you point the camera at the chinese version read it on the phone in english and still you are non the wizer. it does however provide hours of amsusment

Todays dumb question…

To remove or not to remove the idle screws before putting in the ultrasonic bath…?

Not sure how far down I actually need to strip this before bathing!
