not all us 4x4 owners trash lamp posts and traffic islands I drove the barracuda from Scotts house to home then to work the next morning to pick up the land rover then had to go all over the place to pick up our jcb drivers for snow clearing and was dashing around for three days doing other work related jobs that the pick up and lorry could not do why because I drive a 4x4 !!

Air-con @ -16.5???a standard freezer(not fridge) is set at - 19.
Cant see any-one wanting air con that cold,and you would need the mother of a compressor to achieve/maintain that temp....
Think Sandy had a trip out ti the Highlands that day....and yes Ivor,that is a low temp warning snowflake.....

It looks like an Astra dash. That is outside temp James and the snow flake is indeed an ice warning.

I still cannot believe a guy with an automotive degree thought you can set the climate control to -16 degrees.

He must have dumbed down to communicate with the Yanks.

It is an 08 Astra dash. The snowflake shows the outside temp is approaching 0C, and it is an actual air temp of -16.5C.

Photo taken on the A9 just south of Newtonmore. Ground speed was 60mph (officer), altitude near enough 1000ft, I guess (not long passed the 1500ft marker).

Not a ditched, bashed, skidded, stuck, pranged vehicle in sight.

Although, by the state of the windscreen, not much in sight actually.

I stopped a couple of times to put snow on the windscreen, but it was a bit chilly.

The worst I had was back when I had the MkII Mondeo. It was -6C in Glasgow, -12C by the time I got to Perth, and -21C when I stopped for petrol in Aviemore. It was fine in shirt sleeves in the car, but you really felt the temp while holding the pump handle

I have only seen as low as -16 on my cars thermocouple, but that is reading fahrenheit.

I remember them well, James.

That temp works wonders on the intercooler though. Big boost time.

Here on the balmy South coast, the coldest I've seen this winter was a mild -5C.

However, in Banff, Canada in 1997 we experienced -42C. It wasn't just cold - it was painful. Your nostrils go crunchy, the water in your eyes freezes if you forget to blink, and every breath coats your lungs with ice.
