I was just looking at a photo I took of your engine on Sunday …. Can you tell me what cable/wire/hose is that I’ve highlighted in the picture, it appears to go into the inlet manifold.

It's the negative battery cable, bolted to the inlet manifold under the throttle return spring bracket

Thank you and I did think it could be that but the angle of the picture made it look odd.

I’m fitting a new carb spacer and dual fuel feed line. I notice that the new ally anodised inlet fittings don’t have facility to fit an Inline filter at the carb inlet. Like the old chrome line did.
I’m pretty sure we’ll be ok without as we will have 2 in line filters between tank and carb anyway.

I’ve posted another question over on the Tech section. Would appreciate some input if anyone has any…

re the return line... ford in the 80's fitted a 't' piece between the pump and carb with one fitting being a return to the tank. this had a tiny bore of (from memory) less than 1mm. it would be simple to make a 3/8" bore version if you got a brass 't' and soldered the return fitting solid then drilled it with a maybe 0.5mm drill and go up in size if required. you'd have no unavailable return filters to buy again so welcome saving there too. you'd keep a constant fuel flow so no dead heading and heating up of the fuel.

We got the inline filter with return line repositioned and new carb spacer & dual feed fitted in time for Brooklands.
As expected space between pump & carb was limited. Managed to clamp the outlet hose of the filter to the back of the alternator adjusting bracket which kept it and the hose away from the block & water pump.
Must admit I was happy to see the the black Charger at Brooklands had a similar set up with the filter in the same place. Albeit using hard lines. Which is an upgrade I may do later.
Had to remove the pump to be able to rotate the outlet fitting 90 degrees for more space. So we fitted a new pump push rod while we were at it. Old one hadn’t worn that much to be fair after around 8 years.
Raising the carb 1/2” did mean that the kick down linkage needed tweaking to clear the underside of the air filter.

A few more. Hopefully the right way up…

Just for information, those 90 degree fittings are absolute flow killers. If you have to have a 90 degree turn a swept fitting gives much smoother flow.

I must admit Blue, i was thinking exactly the same thing the other day.
Ordered this to replace the Mr Gasket type chrome jobbie that was a bit squished where it was overbent.
Oh well it'll have to do for now.

If you use the push fit rubber hose and fittings from Torques on eBay then you can plumb most of it with AN fittings but still be able to Bananarama! on a barb and jubilee clip where you have no other option. You can do it all in black so it’s unobtrusive.
