A 3-D model was printed 600 mm long.

This will help us evaluate the aerodynamic bodywork

Fly by wire throttle FBW also know as Drive by wire Throttle DBW

The throttle will have no mechanical linkage to the throttle blade.

The throttle blade will be solely controlled by the onboard computer system.

Having an accurate and very reliable throttle position input from the rider is critical.

I though about thumb throttles and buttons but really wanted to utilise OEM equipment and the reliability that comes with it.

While DBW throttle pedals are very common in cars DBW motorcycle twist grips are rare / bulky / or a cable thing down to car style hall sensor mounted else where on the bike

I found a unit from a modern production Ducati that looks good.

I think I'd rather have the rest of the Ducati than ride your sledge!!!!

Great work!

The unit was based around a low cost plastic handle with keyed clocked slots for position.

Using a cmm (coordinate measuring machine) we were able to quickly plot and reverse engineer this part into a CAD (Computer aided design) drawing.

Once we had the Ducati unit modelled in CAD we could create an aluminium version with would be a lot more robust and better suited for this application.
