Its scary isnt it ? Such work - I feel quite embarrassed at my piddly achievements that I've been so thrilled with !

You wanna come sit with me Gav when Blue rides the thing ? We should make an event out of it... :happy1:

For sure - we'll have to wait until after the lobotomy though 8-)

He is the competition!

Personally I think his bike has reached maximum velocity for its design and another 30mph is a massive ask.

Guy maybe a very talented rider but sitting with Morgan and Gav in the stands with a pint watching blue ride it.

Best day ever

A steering damper, or steering stabiliser is a damping device designed to inhibit an undesirable, uncontrolled movement or oscillation of a vehicle steering mechanism, a phenomenon known in motorcycling as wobble

We mounted the steering damper to the underside of the steering arm.

Taking it up a notch ..we mounted a linear potentiometer to the rear of the steering damper.

This will allow us to log the steering positions and plot this data for analysis later.

With the previous bike it was very hard to tell if you steered leaned / counter steered or in-fact what worked best.

Hoping that having some steering angle data should help

Love all the details in the engineering :thumbright:

What was the reason for not going with a single sided swinging arm, seems a lot to lug about for a steering damper & potentiometer or am I missing something completely....

Love the engineering detail, things like pot mounting bracket, make all the difference to me.

We also mounted a Linear potentiometer on the front damper.

This will give us data logging of the front damper but more importantly give us ride hight. This ride hight data could be used in real time to activate or trigger different onboard parameters.

Example -

If the bike was to try to wheelie or lift up due to Aerodynamic lift engine timing could be briefly pulled out the engine to reduce torque.

The below picture shows how this data is used in a car application and how detailed it can be.

Steering rod finished.

We decided to connect this to the master Cylinder and have added some adjustments for fine tuning.

The rod was machine down from a much larger bar to leave the adjuster nut protruding out the bar

same with the suspension tie rods :love10:

Trying to reduce the frontal area as much as possible replaced all the levers for mini finger leavers.

Be interesting to see how this works in practice......

Buttons !!!

Hours and hours and hours

On and off the bike different designs different ideas.

I even got in my car and drove to the man that sells the buttons to talk about location and functionality.

Initial design started with Loads of buttons on the handlebars with loads of functionality.

Finally decided that this bike should be easier to ride than a moped

Story of my life couldn’t find anything that fitted off the shelf so brought switches and made holders.

The switches themselves are extremely high end and do really need to be due to the application.

Functions like Up shift and Parachute deployment will be controlled by these so there is no room for error.

Hours were spent swimming though Chinese knockoffs looking at
MTBF (mean time between failures) data.

Needless to say I have found the most beautiful switches in the world.
