"I don't think Pete wants to go as far as "real" bracket racing (way too complicated for the Sanat Poo crew @ the Nats), I think he's more after pairing cars of a similar ET, eg me and AndyRob (11.72 and 11.6). This would look more exciting than, say, an 8 second Strret Eliminator car against a standard Dodge Ram. I know for a fact I find a close race more exciting when I'm in the car even if I lose, as my 60ft is great but the other guy overhauls me by the stripe, cool runnings! "

But thats the whole point of Stock APPEARING Adam - the emphasis is on the word appearing. You can hide what gizmos you like in your glove box (except NOSAdam68 wrote:Mr Biggs is NOT stock , check out his glove box , also the heads.Ashley wrote:Miles, Stock Appearing was won by my mate, Mick Elsworth in his 68 Coronet with a 13.60...MilesnMiles wrote:What was the fastest time in stock appearing? If it was 13,s its not an unattainable target for the right car, surely?
The Green Charger is Glinn Biggs, think he ran 13.62..
My best was 13.86..
There is NO Stock Class at the Nats, Just Stock Appearing
Anything goes if it APPEARS stock.
Me? I'd love to be pushing 10's with a stock appearing stroker but as we've got an engine that we dont want to deviate too far from stock as it's pretty much irreplaceable (for us), I'm happy to do whatever runs we do at the Nats in the Stock Appearing class. If there was no such class we'd still do some runs, just as part of the regular RWYB. But as the car appears to be stock, why not do it with a SA number shoe-whited on yer window
Eh Clivey? C'mon, we dont want to be the only Stock ones in Stock Appearing

In the US they have a cutoff of 1974 for their stock appearing cars, because they know that, fully falling within the rules, the newer cars would blow the doors off the older ones.

No Pete it's a pukka 426 (out of a 63 max wedge plymouth), now with a 30 thou rebore. Only non-stock items are now the cam (hydraulic instead of solid, but similar spec) and pistons (slightly lower comp).Pete wrote:Hey Rob, is your car a 413 or is it based on a 440 (is it "stroked" - or "Bored"![]()
)
If it was based on a 440 we'd have built in a few more mods

The TAZ/Surrey Muscle thing is organised by themselves and (mainly) Jason Gilmore.
As far as I am aware the Nats committee were approached and the whole thing worked out between Jason and them so the format could be agreed on and included in the program of events.
So yet again. If you want to change the format of the Nats, go and speak to the Nats Committee. Only they can yes or no it so it is pointless going on about it here.
I am more concerned about making my car go as fast as possible. I really don't care if the car in the other lane is faster or slower. The event is not a race event.
My other concern is how you could possibly sort out the pairings. I don't want to take an hour to get to the front of the fire up lane just to have someone tell me I have to move to one side because you have a bunch of cars you want to run in specific pairs. It is a RWYB event and if it is my turn I want my turn. The Taz/Surrey thing is a pain in the arse and of absolutely no interest to me. It just holds up the clubs cars.
But if the organisers of the event thought it would be good for the spectators then you have a chance of sorting something out.
I just don't see how it would work on the day.

Went for the hyd cam to save messin with the valve lash - mainly cos you (we) cant get to all (both) the lower rocker cover screws without removing the pass side exh manifold, and there's bugger all room next to the cross-ram to get to the top screws either
So chose an MP cam of similar spec that would save all that messin. I know, lazy so & so's.... But the right gaskets arent that easy to get hold of either (I mean no one stocks them over here)
And we wanted to make sure we could run on 'pump gas' without having to use additives, so went for 10.2 instead of the original 11:1.
In hindsight, I wouldve liked a bit more comp for a bit more power, but I'm not sure if 11:1 wouldve been pushing our luck
Decided at the time to go with that cam & comp, knowing that a bit more of each would give a good increase in power if we wanted at a later date.
