Dropping the axle tonight, ready for ordering the Green bearings tomorrow and then thanks to Ade, the imminent arrival of me tyres to Crewe... so I'll be seeing you soon Dunc
I'll buy the gauges I bagsied a few months ago too
A productive day.
My tyres made it home thanks to Ade & Dunc. I haven't had the nerve to explain exactly what they're for to Willow...
I found the cause of my axle leaks- Crap seals that came with the Strange axles. These have done barely 100 miles and were fitted less than 3 years ago.
I've put my new press to good use removing the old bearings and fitting the new Green ones.
Tiredness kicked in this evening and my brain went to mush- someone remind me in what order the bits go on... gasket then brake backplate then the retaining plate.?

After a lot of frustration I found a local ATS that could cope with my big fat tyres.
New 16.5 x 31 x 15 M/T Street ET's now fitted, balanced and on the car
I had such a blast yesterday
I took the car out for about 40 miles to try out the new tyres.
Sooo nice to not have to worry about oil leaks or the wheels trying to shake themselves off the back of the car!!
It just accelerates like a train, smooth as silk, 100+ with no dramas. Lovely!
I'm hunting a replacement clutch but I've had a couple of leads that haven't worked out, and no reply yet from Chris at WASP.
Today I'll drop the gearbox again and whip out the clutch ready to check the state of it and to be ready for a new one to go in.
I also still have fluid blowing out of the axle breather. I'll have to look into an off-road pipe-n-filter type breather.
My mate Terry is hopefully skimming the bottom of the body off my 750dp today so I can get that built next week and fit it. That should give my new clutch a good test!
I have a McLeod friction plate on the way from Brewers (ordered through WASP).
New set of NGK plugs and a pair of 1/3" thick rocker gaskets ordered from Hausers.
I got my 750dp carb body back last night from having the bottom machined flat (15 thou taken off). That's now built, including a few bits robbed from the old carb, and ready to install.
MOT is booked for 9am Thursday, I can't believe how quick that's come around!!
Do yourself a favour and chuck those clear sight plugs away. They seem like a good idea, but then they go cloudy so they are worse than useless, and then the top breaks off causing a leak when you least expect it. Twice that's happened to me at the track, luckily I had the brass plugs with me and something to dig out the remains of the plastic one.
The clear plastic sight plugs I have fitted in the past literally broke apart before the car even had it's first run out on the road. One fell apart as I watched.
Thanks for the warning.
I found I had to wet them so I could see.
Also they've gone tight as hell, I had to remove & refit them with pliers, this may be a sign they're on their way out!!
It looks like you do not have 4 corner idle there, chap.
Not the end othe world.
Another trick is to crack the throttle blades of the secondaires a smidge - 40 thou or so - BEFORE you mount the carb. That will give you a better chance of getting the bugger to idle...........
Correct Pete, just primary idles.
I had to do the same as you suggest for the other carb.
In fact I found I needed to crack the secondaries open further than recommended (so the slot appears 'square' below the blades) as it just didn't like it.
Luckily as I have the hi-rise manifold (and now 2 1/2" of spacers) I can easily adjust the secret screw when the carb's fitted.
