Had a few good hours filling and sanding the wheel arch today.
It's not a thick skim of filler but I'm having to work a large area to follow the gentle horizontal curve, it also took several goes to work out the complex contours between the long horizontal ridge and the arch lip.
I started with the thought 'Oh my god I'm never gonna get this anywhere near! '
Right now I reckon I'm getting close to primer!!

Thats looking fantastic!! As Im digging into my Fury Im finding more stuff to do in the welding dept. At some point Im going to dothe whole trunk floor from a plain sheet....any tips on bead rolling etc as it looks like youve done a bit? What etch primer do you use??

A mate has a hand bead roller, we did the wheel well covering panel with that. It didn't have a very deep throat though.
For the fuel pump box, I hammered an X into each panel with a blunt bolster. I did the same with the floor panels on my Truk.

I use POR15 Metal Ready (from Frosts)
It rustproofs, etch primes and leave a zinc phosphate coating.
The only issue I've found lately is if the metal is too cold it instantly rusts when you Bananarama! off! It took a bit of experimenting to work out what I'd done wrong. I think condensation must have got trapped under/ in the fluid when I sprayed it on. I now use a halogen heater on the panel from the day before and apply the POR15 with a clean sponge instead of spraying (this uses a lot less fluid too!) Using that method it came out perfect. A good rub with scotchbrite and panel wipe and it's ready for primer

Here's my current favourite bodyworking tool... A two foot length of 3" exhaust pipe

I've been out with the filler already today- on the wheel arch lip It should be dry now so I'll sand it back and see if I need to fill in any gaps.
I'm hoping to get to primer by the end of today!

Lookin good! Ive been doing the same today on the Fury.....wish I had a big garage instead of the drive!!

What paint are you using for the guide coat?? spray can satin or matt black or something else??

Matt black rattle can. It's not ideal as it clogs the paper occasionally. There's a proper powder I may look into.
Bear in mind Steve I'm no expert at this- I'm learning as I go. You should take advice from Ivor and the other skilled painters on here too!

It's not as good as it appears in the pics- there's a lot more sanding to do around the wheel opening and then it'll need another dose of primer.

That looks really professional and thanks for the tips. Im at the guide coat stage so will have a go with some mat black in the morning....cheers!

So today I've hung a gate for my next door neighbour, helped Scarlett to begin building her Red Arrows Gnat, built one working Hoover out of two broken ones, and done loads of sanding on my wing and it's actually looking pretty bloody good!

The swage line has a slight wave so I need to work on that a bit and fill in a few dips.

This is something I just do not have the patients for and never will

I didn't think I could do it Will, in fact when Drew was painting his I said how much I hate this stuff and don't have the patience for it!
Now I've had a bit of success and I'm getting a 'feel' for it, I'm really starting to enjoy it.
