It's the fillings stuff in the rocker cover that worries me,have a good look at all the valve gear. Check the oil,look for metallic bits. You don't want to stuff the bottom end.

Comnpression test all the cylinders, a broken will will show up as low compared with the others, then glug some oil down the hole, retest and if the reading goes way up it's defo the rings, if not it's the valves or head gasket.

Hi Pete,

Had this problem meself!

Do not run the engine, you have got OIL starvation to the valve train!!!

Any metal filings in the engine will go ALL around the system!

This could be a cam bearing misalignment or blocked oilway to either head.

When this happened to my race motor it was TOAST!!!

Incidentally, what is the CR of the current motor - how far down the bore are pistons?
