wheel adaptors font rotor swap for large pcd a-body

Post by black8driver »

ok.
ive just rang summit and the guy tells me that wheel adaptors from 5x4" pcd are no longer being made..
so i need to change my front hubs asap as mine are still the small 4" pcd and i need better wheels..
i know custom adaptors can be made but to be honest i dont really want to spend loads on adaptors as i am changing the axle soon and the hubs wont be far along too..
so

what are my options?
my car is a 67 b'cuda 273 orig and its a rhd uk car.
i need some hubs that will fit my stub axles but not sure what i can get them from??
b body????
again what year/type??
im sure people on here have done this before so whats the thing to do?

im planning on running 15" at least maybe 16" steel wheels and want a decent sized disc.
would prefere seperate hubs and discs not rotors idealy..

can anyone help?
and if anyone has the bits i need let me know as i need the bits asap..
thanks people
:edit:
just realised this might want to be in the brakes section sorry guys.

Nothing large stud pattern will fit the original stub axles. You need the stub axles, hubs and calipers from a '73 up A body, it's a bolt in job. The only problem is finding the stuff in the UK.....

Blue you also need the upper A arms as the top ball joint is bigger

They also do a kit for 10" drums on either kit no need to change the upper arms as they mount to the drum type spindle.

Yes, sorry I forgot you need the upper arms as well. Other than that it's an aftermarket kit as Guy suggests. It is also possible to have the original hubs drilled for 4.5" PCD.

so is the disc barracuda the same spindles as the drum ones then??
its just as far as i can make out its different but also not sure if its the same as the larger disc a-bodys either..
it would be simple if i had a drum setup as there is lots of stuff available to convert..
but i cant find anything for a small pcd disc setup...

also is the smaller top balljoint and smaller spindle a weak piont? as one option is to make some hubs of adapt others to fit either the bigger b-body or even mustang etc..
i dont necisarily need a bolt on swap as i was going to use some 4 pot ap calipers and use whatever disc might do the job with the right offset and size to suit..

areb many mopars seperate disc and hub or is it just early stuff?

The problem with the big ball joint drum body spindle is that they are like rocking horse poo. Every one is after them because you need them for the Viper brake conversion

On the A body,
9" drum spindle.
10" drum spindle.
Early disc spindle
'73 up disc spindle.

All are different, and even have different size wheel bearings if I remember right, hubs for one style spindle will not fit another. Nothing wrong with the small ball joints.

ok thanks for that blue..
so it bassicly meens i will either have to redrill my hubs.
or make new ones.
or change spindle for anouther complete with hubs....

in that case has anyone got spare early disc spindle and hubs so i can adapt without putting mine on axle stands for a bit?

cheers
