Pistons are back in the block after being "adjusted" to clear the new heads. Head is placed on block without gasket in this photo to double check clearence between pistons and head. I gave it 1 thou clearence to get 40thou with the gasket.

Pushrod clearance took a lot of grinding work because my pushrods are now a) slightly on the short side and b) fitted with 1.6:1 ratio rockers.

These heads really need 1.5:1 ratio rockers and pushrods on the long side to save you a lot of hassle. Probably still need some work even then.

I didn't want to be grinding in the garage because of the dust so have only be able to work outdoors at weekends when the weather was OK.

It should go together very quickly now though.

Hi Dave,

Good heads those for the money and will deffo outflow the 906's with a huge weight saving as well!
I can trade you a set of 1.5 Crane Golds if that helps???

Didn't want to make the mistake of lapping and fitting the valves (like I did on the other head) before checking if any more work on them was needed.

They look very nice painted up a bit.

Not sure that it is the heads. They flow about the same. Could be. But better quench, fresh valve seats, and spanking clean valves are probably a factor.
Or maybe I have just forgotten how good this car can be when everything comes together right.

More noise from the engine though. As if the heads don't sound proof as well as iron. Sounds like a 8 second dragster more than a street car. I had to check the exhaust cut-outs were fully closed.

yes those alloy heads are a little louder for sure, more valve train noise,

Now that's a very interesting observation. Could explain away some of the racket my motor makes......

Only went ali heads because the new owner paid for them Bacca. They were a pain in the butt to fit too.
Iron is still the best head material ever.

The Chally is being picked up and taken to Europe next Saturday.

Meanwhile I just spent the afternoon having a very nice drive in a car almost as fast but returning an average of 28mpg.
