Clearance issues 70 Dart

Post by Dart Vader »

Having put the 8.75 in, Rallye wheels and the BF Goodrichs on I dont think I've enough clearnance between the tyre and the rear arches

Tyres are 245/65/R15's, I can only get a pencil width at best between the arches and wheels

I presume this is too little.........the engine isnt in yet so its is sitting on its back end a bit and I was going to raise the rear end shackles by two or three inches so I guess this will create more space.

However if its not I'm going to have to down size the tyres to 235/60/R15

Will this extra 10mm be worthwhile or should I go smaller again?

Anyone done this swap if so what size tyres did fit?

Roll or cut the wheel arch lips.

Have you got a lot of space behind the wheel? Seems a bit tight for just a 245 so I wondered if the offset was wrong?

That would be my thought, before shelling out on new tyres . . .

Thats very helpful, cheers guys, not sure of the back spacing.

May just have to suck it and see, if needs be then it'll be a tyre change I guess

Cheers fellas

Blimey Jeff, going though all the old stuff !

Fixed it by going to smaller tyres in the end !

mini tub it :D

On a more serious note, I have just about got this side on the rear but they were tight on mine also (68 dart)

If you are happy with the wheels and tyres I would look at cutting or folding back the lip on the arch. You can do it without cracking the paint if you are REAL careful. That said a bit of paint would cost only £50 for both sides I expect if you make a mess.

Thought about that but didn't have the heart or balls to try it. My panels are way too good to do that !

Dont do it.if you have nice arches leave them alone.enough wheel arch butchery has happened to darts over the years.rolling them creates rust traps

Its time to stop all that bodgery
