1970 RM23 Roadrunner

Post by Hemimad »

Hi all,

Couple of shots of progress on the 70RR. Rear quarters finished and engine bay prepaired for paint. Still a bit to do before the actual paint, but getting closer!

The rusty looking K member is just Tor-Red paint dust stuck to the oil/power steering fluid leaks. The whole underside has been stripped, sealed and stonechipped in black so it is more road usable in the countyside.

Thinking about getting an Air Grabber hood next, looks like I will have to dig out the 1886 Hardy Fly rod in the loft and stick it on ebay!

Car is going back in Tor-Red (EV2) with black vinyl roof, gold dust trail, black transverse stripe and performance hood paint. The only changes to the car is the omission of the rocker mouldings, removing the A/C and it lost its original 383 engine and 727 transmission before it came to the UK in 91 (I belive) it now has a 440 HP2 motor with 4BBL Holley.

Nice car. There's a member on here that had a 70 Road Runner air grabber hood for sale, he may still have it. His name on the board is Moose and he's in Mansfield I believe.

Mick70RR, thanks for taking the time to look into that for me, much appreciated. I am sorting a deal with USAuto to bring an AMD one in for me, just got to man up and pay the piper!

DaveB, I did think it might of been the one that ended up on you GTX from what you said the other day. Thanks for the coffee and advice as well as the parts. Good luck with the Superbird project, now that really looks good!

I will try and update this with a few more shots soon, but not likely to see paint until the new year.

While the car has been away, I have restored most of the bits that came with it in boxes, I have just retrimmed the seats with a set of covers from Legendary, I'm not the best trimmer, need to tighten up the corners but not a bad first effort. Both seats have the same corner problem and hope that a bit of heat will get rid of the ripples to the side. The engine has been given a freshen up ready for going back in. I have been restoring the rusty dash, the windscreen was broken in 91 and had been letting water in up to 2012, so POR the lower sections and refinished it in matt black, which I think was the original colour. The A/C heater is on the go now but the bypass valve has seized and is leaking, so new one required when funds permit.
