What am I doing wrong?, loosened the nut, managed to get a prett heavy duty puller on it, one of those hydraulic ones.

Still wont come off, didn't want to use heat in case it transferred up into the p/s box

Is it just brute force needed?

hahahahahahaha!

Sorry Justin, I couldn't help myself!

I had a hydraulic puller on mine and still had to hit it with a big hammer and I thought everything was about to break than as TW said....BANG!

first take the puller off

hold a stone masons hammer, the heavy square, short shanked, usless for everything, breaks everything, thing, hard against one side of the bit round the sector shaft. get a mate to hold it side or end face of hammer against the side of pitman arm eye matters not which :)

use your standard claw endowed pursuader to absolustely clatter it on the other side.

this should flex the eye in the pitman

theeeee very definition of percussive maintenence

then apply the puller

jobs a goodun

works for upper and lower balljoints as well.

just do it once and quite hard you need the big hammer pressed with all his might firmly againts the other side to achieve maximum wallop without smashing the sector and the bottom bearings in the box

if you hit him and not the pitman life is still good no damage done

if you are a swordsman of the realm you might manage to hit each side at the same instant with 2 equally heavy hammers. but thats hard.

but most of us blokes have 1 forearm thats in better physical nick than the other for some reason, so imbalances are in built.

Cut mine off with a cutting disc on a angle grinder, after, a lot of time with hammers, pullers etc. Good luck and don't cut too deep.

I used this set up to get mine off Justin....puller perfectly squarely on the pitman arm, G clamp tight on outside of puller then a socket on a breaker bar and it popped off relatively easily. My mate has it at the moment to do his Newport but you are welcome to it when hes done if you want it mate...

Cheers Steve :thumbright:
