Gut feeling is the tread looks to be on there to try to look legal, so may be.

Quick look through Con & use regs, the tread requirements are for depth, so if they are 1.6mm over the centre 3/4 then ok. Tread pattersn themsleves are not mentioned and some tyres have edge tread that is designed to wear out early.

On the face of it, they look to be OK tread wise.
Tyre mixing is an issue, can't have crossplies or bias belted on back and radials on front, has to be best construction to back. I am not sure what construction MT's are?

Wil is right about E marks as well which may be a problem.

Also on a cost basis, wont these MT's wear out really fast on road use, and be knackered before getting to the Pod?
I remember driving my Herald on the road on my Yokohama A008's which were road/race tyres and they wore out in no time.

E marks seems to be more for selling of tyres, i.e they can't be sold without E marks on.

On the face of what I can find the tyres comply with C&U regs but do look to be race tyres with some kind of tread pattern.

Just because they might not get you a fine, will you be safe? That is more important than anything else.

E markings are considered at the MOT test. If a tyre is marked with " Not for Highway use" it will pass at MOT if it has the following E mark. I think Matt is spot on though just because the tyre passes the MOTand you won't get a fine your safety has to be number 1 not to mention all your hard work and determination on the car going to waste. Don't want to put a dampner on things.
But I would agree on the safety aspect.
Road legal or not any tyre with little tread will be lethal in the wet !!!
Been there and done it on bikes.
Not worth it !!!

However many pairs of pants you have ! :D

Ive got a set of vectors here with good tyres. Im still in plaster from the knee down till 10th July then I can dig them out . Call me daytime Paul if you still want to drive it down . You can use these to get there & back.

I did in my younger days sand off for racing only and make an e mark with hot punch set and hot round punch.

I also had demon tweaks cut smile faces in my tread. They will cut tread in slicks and it was cheap but was 8 years ago


Every time a copper pulled me over he was more interested about the flamer kit I had fitted with petrol and at one point a gas injection kit

I was running 13x10 slick on the road
but this was on the back of a mini with a 998cc engine ;)

I would put any wheels on the back then when you get there swap over

Yup, they are legal over here.... They are not in the UK.... By all means use them. Have an accident in them, you will not be insured! This whole thing came up a few years ago. They are DOT approved, but not for UK use.

You are right there Jeff. The insurance company would take one look at those after an accident and laugh all the way to the bank.
