The lad hit 1st gear instead of third. Yes he is a muppet but what worries me is that he has lost control of the car because he is no longer in the driving seat.

So "racing" with no helmet and no seat belts.

It just goes to show that even in a very "slow" car there are dangers and I think good secure belts and a helmet should be compulsory AND checked by an official before going onto the track. No matter how slow the car.

I would not have liked to have been passing him on a charge in a faster car when that happened.

Been pointed out the seat probably broke loose when the car hit the wall backwards.
Not sure there is a lot you can do about that except ban anything built in the Midlands.

Trying to understand how he's lost it.

Going from redline in 2nd to first would surely just pop the engine?

From what I have seen, any accident in an Original Mini is just instant injury!

Hope he/she Is okay.....Looked like a bloody clean car too!

Bet he's gutted. Nice MK1 Mini worth a few bob these days. Back subframe is going to be stuffed. Hope the lad is ok.

Hitting first like that would probably lock up the front wheels, hence loss of control. Belt and helmet plus at least basic scrutineering should be mandatory for anything going down the track. It's a dangerous environment, things go wrong quickly and suddenly, and often trouble comes from the other lane.

Crikey. Obviously the lad's wellbeing is the first priority but an aluminium bodied mark 1 Mini isn't going to be easy to fix...

Could not even get it on top of the wall.........

Totally agree regarding helment an suitable belts............

Hope he is ok and it is only a quarter panel and his pride that is damaged..........

As Blue said it can go wrong very quickly & then becomes the luck of the draw on the outcome.
Just ask Pete. Ruined his hair once

I think that any car can be a death trap . I personally like Mini's. Currently doing one up for my 15 yr old. Swapped the front subframe yesterday
