Very expensive. But more like a gearbox should be. Plus it should be tough enough for the 500 inch low block he is mating it with. That block has been dyno'ed and makes 617 HP @ 5800 rpm and 566lbs @ 5600 so needs a strong box.
He has already fitted the car with a Dr Diff dana axle and 4 wheel disc brakes with Viper calipers. Should be a good combo.
My plan is to shoot him in the kneecaps with his Glock while I am over there so he can't drive it and has to sell it to me.
dave you dont need that 5 and six speed stuff with a good 440 i ran 3.23 gears in my runner it never stopped pulling up to 150 it really did pull as strong in 4th as 2nd that sixpack loved it,
i had so much fun in that car it was brutall you could easily pass a row of 6 cars
it was bloody hopeless at the strip though,
blimey i was 35 then and would race anything in it
I had to give up driving manual box cars because my left knee kept painfully "going" in traffic. Every time I drove a manual car the knee would go within a few hours. Very painful. It was liek that for years.
But the last couple of years we have had the six speed Alfa as our daily and amazingly my knee has never once been painful while driving. It has gone bad while walking but no longer seems to mind pushing a clutch.
So I have become quite keen on manual shifting again lately. I have started shifting the Corvette's auto trans manually all the time now too. With the muffler by-pass tubing I put in it sounds lovely at high rpm and with a bit of engine breaking it sounds like a real performance car.
So I have become a manual shifting fan again. Wouldn't want to drag race with one though. That's for sure.
Lovin that Blue and its great to see someone with your expertise and experience still so enthusiastic over a new project Mopar. Cant wait to see you work your magic with her matey and please keep the photos coming
I agree with Rob, the Dart was great with the 4 spd. I only took it out because i didn't think the 8-3/4 would last long behind the 440. The irony is, i've fitted a dana since then, i have a lot of money in my converter, so it stays as it is for the moment.

Well progress has been a little slow, I expected to have it MOT'd by now. I had the rear drums off to see why it had bugger all handbrake to find one side covered in gear oil. Got it all stripped down to change the halfshaft seals, waiting for those, brake shoes and wheel cylinders which looked a bit weepy. Everything else in there was new which is handy. So, decided to do a few odds and sods in the meantime. Throttle action was a bit ropey so I made a new cable bracket and fitted some proper return springs. Got hold of an original filler cap. Made heater and radio delete panels, did a quick resto the grille. Here's the befores...
Progress has been slow, but I'm getting on with it. Back brakes rebuilt, handbrake cable unsiezed, new shoes, wheel cylinders and green bearings. Fitted a new indicator switch, which was the reason I only had 1 Brake light. Moved the tach up top where I can see it with a nifty bracket that slips under the dash pad to save drilling it. Fitted a pair of air shocks as a temporary fix to raise it up a bit as the headers were very low to the ground. Oh, and I got it MOT'd today where I met a Greek Elvis impersonator as you do in North london....
