It’s quite handy to view them whilst lying on the sofa though, Pete. :thumbright:

We all feel like that from time to time.

You are not on a deadline, just walk away and return to it once you have chilled a bit and collected your thoughts and regained a bit more enthusiasm... hang in there; you are so close now..

Well a day to forget ,first time I could be bothered to go in the garage for a while and I am close to getting there .Then I put electric through the system for the first time in eight years and the cable from the alternator to the volt gauge on dash says”” na mate ain’t having it “” .Set up new cable on its own and looked for fault which I believe was the coil earth which I earthed to the engine and not to the chassis ..it seems ok now but not sure..Not all bad news though the kill switch works LOL

Think the big bit of progress here Pete is getting out there and getting stuck in again. Youve been through a lot with this car and you will definately get there. A lot of long Winter evenings coming so a few 2 or 3 hr sessions a week will get tons done and you will be driving her in the Spring.

Thanks for the update and this really is a great car :thumbright:

Despite all that, it is looking good Pete.

I am sure you will overcome it in good time.

I look forward to racing with you next season.

i must confess that in a masochistic sort of way i enjoy the problem solving side ,,,with the help of some on here and further afield what seems to be too much to solve becomes quiet doable with my very basic skill and knowledge ...So plan is to bypass the dash volt gauge and put a good earth strap in from the engine to chassis ...one concern i have is that i fried the ignition system but i never had the ignition key in the car so that side of the system was not live but i fear the new alternator is cooked ,,,,

I must say that the Wiring gauge looks a bit "Skimpy", though I tend to go OTT with the gauge to avoid Voltage Drops and wires acting like fuses....

the lack of earth strap between motor and chassis MAY, as i have found in the past, cause any instrument that is supposed to tell you something about the engine to read wrong. most work by measuring a voltage or current and need the connection to be in place so they can establish what zero looks like
if the zero point they see isn't zero the gauge reading is random.

i spent a morning trying to find why my oil gauge Bananarama! the maximum 80"LB as i turned the motor on the starter, which was labouring in a manner that i could not understand.

only to find that i had not connected up the earth strap and consequently had fired my throttle cable and horn connection on the steering column coupler, neither is supposed to carry the current needed to start the car, with the earth strap missing, it found its way through the only other metal bits its could, and they were way too thin :)

you didn't start yours so its highly unlikely that you damaged anything.

sometime i hate my car but hey easier to blame it than me.
Amazing how much you learn when the last thing you did caused you more expense and frustration :)
