Another interesting one!

First appeared in my search in early 2013 with this advert:

Image

Then, appeared on “Friday-Ad” website for the same price, running down to £5,000 in Jan 2014 where it went off the website. I had assumed it was sold at this point.

Image

Then, re-appeared on ebay on 12.02.2014 with a starting price of £3,000 and some more pictures. As it has some of the same photos from the earlier adverts, I assume that this is the same seller for some reason.

Current ebay advert (as of 12.02.2014 at 19:59):

It has clearly been sitting somewhere for a while (last registration in 1993). Not sure that the seller understands the car, given that he thinks there are only nine left in the world! Not even only nine left in the UK actually (14 in the UK either on the road or Sorn by my last count).

Note that the rear vents-details have been covered over. No original interior left either it seems.

Another one to see what price it makes. Been some … interesting … asking prices for chargers over the past few years, but the sales prices are not always clear nor seemingly as high as the asking ones. Will be a good one to make a judge of the market, what with the re-painted VE also on the market (going for far more than it last sold by the current ebay advert).

VH 770 chargers and possibly some VJ had the alloy gills bolted on

then covered with filler

then vinyl roof and side strips applied

anyone who took off the vinyl who knew nothing about the cars would probably not know that the alloy gills were there

on later cars the hole for the alloy gills was just filled with filler.

how does he expect to sell it with just the registration in the description

if you search for charger or valiant or chrylser charger you don't find it ..... odd

Nice work Pete.

I did some work on this back when I was the Aussie Registrar. I have a factory list of all Chargers sent to UK (but I don't think it's complete).

I also have the old Aussie Charger club register.

Send me your email addy and I'll send the factory list. send me your mailing addy and I'll send the club register.

The White VE was driven by the man in the read sweater to that Ace Café Aussie Day event, he drove it all the way from Scotland. He did sell it a while after that.

The other black one with the crappy wheels was offered to me by a guy in Leeds a number of years ago. I turned it down since there seemed to have been all sorts of fettling done on the hubs and they didn't seem safe.

Hello mr bratfink.... dont know your real name, sorry.
Just wondering if your import list shows how many VG VIPs were imported.

No Sorry,

Just Chargers. It didn't even show sedans and wagons in the VH/VJ series.

I got my list from a guy who was involved in saving the original lists from the dumpsters behind the Tonsley Park factory in 81 when Bananarama! over. They only concentrated on saving documentation for perceived high value cars, so the coupes etc.

One last thing.

There were S series Valiants here. However I can't tell if they were imported from Aus or RHD versions made in Canada.

One popped up on ebay about 5 or 6 years ago reputedly having once belonged to Reggie Cray!

Ok, just one more.

That Centura can be found in the Coventry Transport Museum. It's a 245cu in Hemi 2bbl.

Brought to the UK by Chrysler to test the waters to see if they could sell them. It was loaned to the museum then Chrysler was bought out by Peugeot and no-one knew what it was or where it came from.

I spent some time at the Museum when I lived there giving them info on the what it was, but I couldn't help them with the why. It used to be parked up in a back room not on display. I found out it existed through a contact in Aus who knew it was there and followed it up.

Is it now on display?
