Seatbelts ('72 Demon): Can someone educate an idiot?
I give up. I've been thinking on this for 48 hours and I can't work it out. So here's the first silly question from me... Can someone please explain to me how these seatbelts work?
The male buckle with the retracting mechanism attached to either side of the benchseat base (a) will connect and release quite happily with the female recievers in the middle of the bench (b) but I can't work out what to do with the shoulder belt that clips into the roof brackets(c)?
Thanks in advance,
Jon.

Yep has it on my 72.Blue wrote:From what I can remember, the lap belt normally has a metal button that the shoulder belt hooks onto.
Lap belt realistically with a hook on diagonal..............guess what I leave hooked to the roof........
In all honesty, not sure it would help much in a big emergency........

Taking a closer look a at those lap belts, they don't look like original Mopar parts to me, I think someone has replaced the originals for some reason.Super Sloth wrote:Hi Blue / Dart,
Thank you for replying.
I can't find anything that would resemble either an extra hook or a button on either end of the lap belt on either side of the car?
There are no additional fittings on the seat either?

I think you've cracked it, Blue.
I've just been having a nose on ebay US (I guess that's going to be my night time entertainment from now on!) and I've found a set of belts advertised for a '72 duster with totally different lap belts.

These clearly show a little mushroom on the male half of the clasp as you described which would match up with what I have bolted into the roof of the car.
Additionally, the female front clasps in our car are a different style to those fitted in the rear. However, the female clasps in the advert above match the style of the units fitted to the rear of our demon exactly?
So, as you say, I guess the belts in the roof are right and the lap belts need to be swapped out.
At least I know it's not me being stupid now!
