Just for Alex and DaveR there is a way to take yer valves out with the heads on;
Remove rocker covers, remove rocker gear, remove pushrods, remove all valve springs as per super tech article by meeself, remove waterpump and fan (if fitted), remove crank pulley, remove timing case, remove timing set, remove sump, remove crank complete with pistons and rods, THERE'S YOUR VALVES! This is probably best done with the engine out of the car, please refer to your service manual for taking the engine out. HTH
