Rust under vinyl roof - 74 Chally

Post by Garp »

So today I caught glimpse of a bubble under the paintwork just along the chrome beading bottom of the rear window.
Went to inspect closer and ran my fingers along the vinyl and it sounds like a bloody crisp packet !!!!! Not happy.
Is there a replacement panel for here or is it a patch, sand, spray and cover job.
Need to nip this in the bud.
Thanks all
:P

rear scuttle

can be terrible if not caught in time. look in boot to see if it's come through

common problem so it's nothing personal

might have some spare vinyl somewhere if you do cut it out

Yes you can buy that panel (deck filler panel according to AMD) :)

if you're feeling brave :working:

And there's also a deck filler panel centre support if needed...

10 years ago this was the beginning of the end for Challys. Not so now thanks to companies like AMD you can pretty much every replacement panel so don't worry - might be a bit of work but the stuff to fix it is out there.

Good news then with regard to the panel. Thanks for that, I'll get ordering one ASAP.
It hasn't come thru to the boot as yet but I'm thinking that this coming winter it has got to be sorted.
Justin, anyone local you know who you'd recommend ?
Will ask at Thurs meeting ......
Took my son and 3 mates (yes, 5 in a Chally) to their prom this eve ..... boys loved it !#
As my wife says " Do you get a wry smile on your face ever time you drive this car ?"
Me : "yes"
She: "so it's not just me then"

Hi all
I was investigating the rust issue a bit further earlier below my rear window and am a little perplexed.
I cleared out the boot and got a good torch and checked the panel over thourougly - it's dusty but there is no sign of rust whatsoever on the inside ..... is the rear deck a double skin ????
I also thought perhaps that the bubbling could ( which would be great ) just be the paint and that I've got water between the paint and the metal, and the metal oxidising is bubbling the paint ????
As I said before, it's really just under the thin vinyl strip below the window trim at the base.
Is there any other bits of metal under the vinyl ???
I just don't want to go ahead and order a panel that I don't need ......
Thanks

Ehh yea that is an issue,we had it with our cuda, you are lucky it is not in the 1/4s,but I would probably pull the vynal off,and make a good inspection before purchasing a panel,if it is small enough you can braze it,or make a piece, and weld it in, but you really might have to a thorough inspection ,which might mean removing the vynal
