Now that I race with the exhaust system off I was looking for an easy fix to quieten things down between meetings. Turns out Purple Hornie header mufflers are back. This was the exhaust system when I was a kid, no doubt why I have Tinnetus. Anyway it’s a fair bit quieter than open headers and saves an hour and a helper to fit the system everytime I need to start the car.

i remember them, only needs a couple of turn downs on the ends and it'll be quieter still in the car. :thumbright:

I’m not done wringing out the present combination yet but looking ahead… Currently using a dual plane intake so trying a single plane is the next logical thing to try. Edelbrock super Victor seems to be the best intake for where I’m going so I’m preparing one. First job is to mill off the EFI blocks on the runners so I can grind clearance for the valve covers. For some reason the the casting narrows under the carb mounting pad partially obscuring the butterflies, not good for making horsepower.

Broke out the die grinder and removed the offending area and then laid it back into the port roof. Air does not flow well on a 90 degree turn so lessening that angle will improve flow. I’m waiting for supplies now before I take out any more material.

Port match is also out of whack so I’ll deal with that in due course.

i had to grind out those upper plenum 'corners' on the old edelbrock streetmaster i fitted to the 390 fe i put in my anglia estate. ford fe guru barry rabotnik reckoned it would be worth 50hp. :thumbright:

Had a brilliant time at Dragstalgia! Running in Nostalgia super stock I got as far as round 3 before being narrowly beaten. Weather was all a bit four seasons in one day but it all panned out in the end. Many thanks to Dave and Stu & the Floydettes for crewing and cooking. Roll on the Mopar Euronats and we'll have another crack at it.

Thanks all, it's come a long way from that car I took a blind punt on eBay 6 years ago...
