chrysler new yorker vin help please for MOPAR novice.

Post by BigRawuk »

Hi Mopar family,
There's a 66 Chrysler New Yorker in Ohio that I am more than interested in and I can't seem to get the VIN tag decoding correct. So I thought I'd look to you all for help please.

The attached picture is what the seller alleges is the vin tag and as I'm not yet a MOPAR owner I'm struggling to define the original build. Any direction or help please is very much appreciated.

Thanks everybody.

:) I am very grateful for that thanks a lot. Hard to know what and where to trust on websites and you nailed it for me!

Anybody have any experience of buying one from usa in so far as how do you send the cash and ensure the car turns up? To explain I wonder if there's a brokering type service that collect the car and then release the balance of cost for you?

This site is great and I've learned to so much from browsing the experience already. I'm sure it's going to make my start to owning a MOPAR come to reality.

Paying is easy if the Seller agrees - BACS.

Ultimately, it is a leap of faith and trust that the guy you send your hard earned money to will honour the agreement...

I have never had a no-show. The quality of the vehicle compared tot he description is another matter, also I have had a car damaged in transit... pucker time!

Top work there Matt :thumbright:

There are some very experienced people one here who can help more than I can but I found it quite easy (and fun) bringing my New Yorker in. Pete is very experienced at it and I agree with his comments. There is a lot of trust involved and you MUST phone the seller to get a feel for him or her. I immediately hit it off with the seller in Texas and we still swap the occasional email etc. Quiz them on the history of the car, the condition and any work that needs to be done. I qualified this by telling the guy that I knew it was project car and needed work but what (if any) bigger jobs need to be done. If you can weld, it opens up a whole new pile of cars that would scare a few off and so can be bargains.

If you agree on a sale, ask for a photo of the VIN plate (as you have) and a scanned copy of the title in the sellers name and address. I asked for a photo of the guys drivers licence too. He sent me that and understood why I had asked him. I also, out of courtesy, did the same so he had some reassurance . Get the seller to take lots and lots of photos, especially just as it leaves their property on the trailer. My car was damaged in transit and I had quite a game getting the money paid out. I had full marine insurance but with a large compulsory excess of £450. My windscreen got smashed (£700). I got most of it back but only after I threatened to sue the shipper for the uninsured loss (excess) as they had admitted the damage occurred in transit.

When it lands, take more photos of everything, again to help with any claims. Check underneath too..I have a friend whos 73 Fury wagon had been unloaded using a forklift and it had squashed the exhaust pipes flat.

As Pete said, you can pay through your bank directly into their account for a small fee. By that time, you should be happy you are doing the right thing with the right seller. Any doubts whatsoever, walk away.

Hope everything pans out, have fun and good luck!

Cheers Steve :thumbright:

Ask for a picture / Scan of the Title.

Unless it has a clear US title the Importers will not touch it and you will NOT be able to register it - Ok if it is just a race car....
