dragged us over to swindon after cancelling filming at the original top gear track as they had managed to snag cameron diaz or tom cruise and the track was in use by UK team not special combined UK/Oz team BBC/CH9

UK top gear bods stayed well clear of us... antisocial buggers all. the aussie presenters were very chatty. each did a lap or two in the car they were allocated, came across as proper petrol heads asked about shipping and history etc

for the UK version they arrived in a prison van, for the aussie version they arrived as an invading force in aussie cars ready to take the mick out of allegro etc.

once done we were told that our presence wasn't necessary any longer while they all went to enjoy a transit van with a massive engine. once the prop you provide is no longer needed the people who were you best friend before the show can't wait to get rid of you

i.e that's it thank you our insurance doesn't allow you to go over there Bye Bye.

can't remember if i got paid for this one... don't think i did. maybe petrol money

they did however send a DVD of the show with outtakes and footage of the car,

did a pop video once as well. Knacked the car and the repairs they paid for, seem to have caused the production company to close up shop,
their loss my gain.

its quite good fun but never quite as good as you hope

yes agree that the agro of keeping an aussie ford falcon on the road in the uk will be very tough and expensive

plus u need to find a proper aussie sized garage .. not a uk shoe box one

If it was £20K I think I would be seeing what I could move on to own this, like a kidney or left leg. I missed one back in 93 just before I bought the Challenger.
It ticks every box for me, even the colour works.

fully restored
nose and air dam lead loaded and fitted
front end resprayed
new decals
new badges
150% better than it was but by the end i had no hair and had aged by 45 years.

both ford and chrysler used their own designers and stylists for the aussie cars often with help from the US, hence the cars is often a US car with aussie outside sheet metal, but the general finishing touches were done by a US company with offices in Oz who specialised in finalising and drafting the diagrams for the design so it could be tweaked into something that might be tooled and produced

on 1 side of the room the XA falcon was being done and the other side the VH charger it has been suggested that the people who worked here talked to each other at lunch etc about what they were working on.....

then suddenly both hit the market with a wedge shaped 2 door coupe.....odd that.

How you lot owning what you do can slate the look of this car and also a wedge mustang is beyond me,,, both cars blow the doors off plenty of mopars who,s shape shall we say is bloody awefull or just to new ahem

sure it aint worth that sort of dough but certainly worth a decent 30 grand I am sure,,

and sorry Dave those two guys that were working on the two cars at lunch breaks I think the ford guy told some porky pies to go make the Chrysler guy go build something that pales alongside the fairmont,,

The Rear of the aussie charger was done by the fella that did the US 71-73 dodge charger and plymouth road runner the front seems to dsraw on the hillman hunter look so i guess both companies knew what they wanted before anyone else got involved

I think ford made a very nice car. which was a big step up from the FAT Mk2 cortina look of the XW XY style falcon

but they all look better in 2 door coupe body.

its the rarity that drives the prices this GT is one of 4 made in that colour....

aussie chargers we are talking 20-30 thousand in total over 8 years in the US they made 48000 68 barracudas in 1 model year, and about 32,000 the next to give context..

aussie fords were more popular but i'd expect a similar disparity in production numbers with similarly styled US cars of the era...

i signed up for a polystyrene stall with tomatoes on it....floaty light with a checked table cloth

i got a solid block of sculpted Oasis foam with marrows small pumpkins pineapples onions and boxes and boxes of oranges.
they purchased a fruits stalls stock. full transit van full.

he hit it at 45 mph

but by that stage everything else was in the Can so with a signed "what i break I'll fix" contact in hand off they went and did it

needless to say i couldn't really speak for about 1/2 an hour afterwards wanted to laugh cry and basically felt like i'd been an idiot to agree
but

all worked out nice in the end
