Worsening fuel standards, lots of E85.
When was the last rime the motor had a de-coke?
My Hemi Pinked very slightly at 34 degrees on the Dyno on VPower Super Unleaded, I have since backed it off to 32 Degrees...

De-coked about 5 years ago when the engine was out, i'll try backing off timming then try something better than BP what I've used for years. Cheers Pete.

Hi Derek, I use Shell V Power in my Polara (HiPo 383 with virtually identical timing settings to your car) and never had a problem, might be worth a try

Re: Pinking
I would try a change in Petrol station first as what comes out if he pistol can vary in quality Derek.
Re: Pinking
Thanks guys, there is a few thing to go on, I did think fuel but as I have used the same BP garage for years I ruled it out.

Re: Pinking
Even the same garage may not keep the same fuel to the same standard all the time. BP may have changed their recipe but they don't advertise the fact. It may have changed at every BP garage if the refinery alters what they produce.

Re: Pinking
My 1st port of call, would be to double check the timing to ensure it is, what it was set at. Once I was happy all was OK, I would try some Shell fuel to verify or eliminate the doubt about BP fuel quality. Depending on results, I would then consider altering timing

Re: Pinking
I had a Knock (Detonation) display on my GTR which was very handy at showing the difference between various pump fuels. In my experience with it, bearing in mind it was a few years ago I found the Shell Premium fuel to be the best (producing least detonation) followed by the Tesco 99 and then the Esso Premium.
I did try the BP 102 and the detonation went through the roof so I always try to avoid BP.
Just my experience

Re: Pinking
Very good info, John.
Knock Sensors are quite cheap but I assume they connect into an existing wiring loom and ECU.
I have not seen a stand-alone system that includes a display.
Any ideas?
