Looking for wisdom re drivers door mirror remote

Been doing a bit of work on the Challenger. Replacing outer glass seals on the doors, greasing runners for the window mechanisms, applying a bit of Dynamat and other stuff and I suppose I should have realised there was something likely to be up before now - in that the door mirror didn't look as I expected (no screws showing on the outside).

Well sure enough inside the door I found this all wrapped up.

So now I'm thinking that would be handy to have! A quick search online says I need to make a hole in the right place on the panel, get a plate to go behind it and a chrome bezel to screw on the interior side.

Only issue is - there are no threads on the unit.

Is there something else that I need?

Is it the correct mirror?

Cheers in advance for any help.

Dougie

Dont know on the chally, but on my charger the remote mirror adjust looks just like that - 3 cables - and its pretty much 'all in one' with the mirror - which has external screws.

Having the adjuster but no hole in the panel seems odd -
Does the lever move the glass ?
Its either orig mirror and someone put a new panel on losing the adjuster or a new mirror and panel. Either way - odd.

These cars are like that though. 50 years is a lot of time for various changes/bodges to happen !! 'Character' they call it...

It looks like the threaded portion of the remote housing has broken off !!!

Thanks for the help folks.

The lever does work the mirror, the panel though is indeed a replacement.

I guess at some point someone has had a bit of an issue (probably when replacing the panel) and damaged the thread / knocked it off.

I think your door mirrors are General Motors - I'm no expert but they look similar in shape to those fitted to most of their 70-80's cars. Later versions have all the screws etc as internal fitments plus the usual "objects in the rear view may be closer than they are" script (earlier ones may have a screw at the trailing edge of the pedestal) - I can let you have pictures of how mine go together if it would assist for comparison.

Update. I've had a look at the ones I am intending to fit to Faux at some time in the future and the GM mirror control cable doesn't have a threaded end. The contol knob unit fits into a key way in the internal escutcheon which is secured IRC with a grub screw. Hope this helps.

Thanks Alan,

I'll have a look into whether the fixings for GM ones can be had.

Still need to check that the control cables can fit around all the window mechanism without catching. Been doing the same work on the other door but no hidden treats in it - although there was a quarter and a golf ball lodged in there!

Yes, that is not a Challenger door mirror, so sounds like you have a GM mirror with GM remote. you can see that the operating lever shape is different too

Yes. Cables a bit short to work it's way round to the correct position without fouling the window and the mechanism as well so guess its leave as is - at least for now.
