Russian muscle?

Post by Captain Chaos »

I hesitated to post this here so if inappropriate please move it. Also I am rinsing any credibility I had here too. Many years ago I was known as the Ladaman, here is one of the reasons why. 12.04 if you want to end sooner.

You look very proud of your Lada. Lotus piston’s sound interesting. Looks like it bit the dust in 1997.

My car trading business was built on these babies, lord knows how many I sent back. At the height of it I was doing about 30 a month with just me my Granada and a Trailer.

Motec who were in Maidstone at the time built the engine,40 mm throttle bodies, modified head, tubular manifold, janspeed, there was something different about the crank and pistons which escapes me too.

I believe Lada did W4nkel engined cars for KGB & Police in the late 70's & early 80's -Their larger 'Volga' saloons had anything from 140hp W4nkels to 5.5L V8's.

....a V8 powered cop car in a country full of 1.3 litre 2 strokes :o

You wouldn’t want a ride in that back in the day.

Some Russian cars are mad,the rear engined V8 Tatra models are particularly bonkers.

I have a real soft spot for Eastern Block cars. I remember when I was a kid, loads of the fellas from the village I lived in near Glasgow went to work on the oil rigs in the North Sea. They came back loaded and all bought these cars because they wanted a brand new car instead of a used escort or mini etc. They would do one Winter and have rust coming through the wheel arches!

I've always loved the big Russian limos from the days when you could watch the Russian army showing off its hardware in Red Square on the telly

And now they are scarce and worth more than they were new such is this crazy hobby.

We borrowed a stretched Riva 1600SLX to promote the garage on a couple of occasions,I drove down Tonbridge high street with a speaker on the roof talking on the mike……

Had several and they are unstoppable off road.

They were never wanted for export so they are around still, not many nice ones left sadly. In Tunbridge Wells there is a 2011 registered one I see, personally imported I’d guess.

I didn't realise they were still being made until fairly recently. Like everything, sure there was a time you couldn't give them away :D
