Cutting shifter housing

Before I go butchering with a hacksaw, any tips on the best way / tools for cutting a plastic shifter housing to fit over the trans tunnel?

Seems very thick brittle plastic, but want to make a neat job of it.

I use a thin cutting disc and careful use of a grinding disc if it's a curve, slow and steady. I normally fit to the floor shape first and then shorten it afterwards if needed. That way if you cock up you've still got some material left to correct it.

Thanks Blue. Wasn’t sure if a cutting disc would splinter it, so good to know.

No it won't, they crack very easily if a hacksaw blade suddenly jams though I can tell you that!

:D I wasn’t really going to hacksaw it, just checking. ;)

Instructions with the shifter says tin snips, though... sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

Yea, think I'd rather try biting chucks out of it than tin snips....

Planning to make a template from the tunnel and start low, as you suggest. I want to make a neat job of it, so rather take some time to get it right. :thumbright:

Thin grinding discs are great for nearly everything these days, they work very well.

Was planning on using a Dremel, but realised I picked up an oscillating one rather than a spinning one. #-o

Hey ho. Out with the angle grinder and thin disc it is then. 😁
