The joys of a rotting Belvedere tail gate

An IPA to celebrate makes it more tolerable.....

Good work there, anything can be done with a bit of guts to get on with it, plus a welder and a grinder!

The IPA is the reward. :thumbright:

that looks mint....

from your orginal photo i couldn't tell if it was the open side or the door jam side
you have a rare car with a closing panel most of us have never seen in the flesh..... i checked parts book and manual I had, even they don't have a proper picture of the door

nice use of beer as heat sink to avoid warp....

Thanks Chaps!

A great guy on B Bodies Only sent me photos with dimensions of a decent one. As you say, details I never knew existed!

I reckon there will be 30 different new pieces welded in by the time I'm finished - nothing left of the inner or outer frames and a lot of bracketery internally.

I reckon I've become the UK expert😂

Looks great. I have little to no skill with this stuff but, with the help of Blues old MIG welder, a workmate and some 16 gauge sheets, I enjoyed learning a bit on my old 66 Fury. I can now appreciate the skill involved in work of the quality you can do... very nice!

Thanks for the encouraging comments - really helps :thumbright: But I'm just like you, use whatever is lying around to bend and shape stuff - and have a go! It's never going to be a concours winner.

Bits of old bed frame, woodworking clamps and scaffold pole to shape the 1.5m long outer skin :headbang:

I can relate to that... amongst other things, I replaced the lower sections of the rear quarter just in front of the rear wheels on my Fury. I could get the 90 degree bends at the bottom ok but couldn't get the gentle curve up to the body line using the workmate. I had an old patio heater in the back garden and used the fat lower section that housed the gas bottle to gently 'bounce' the panel around until I got the curve right. I always think ' What would the Cubans do?' and an answer normally appears :thumbright:

TBH getting bored of this tail gate now!

36 individual panels/pieces and counting, but digging deep and getting on with it.

Almost at cleaning up and filling and priming stage, then refurb of all the window runners, motor, wiring and gubbins. Just takes forever  Need more ale!
