1968 W200 pickup

(Think it’s the same as a D200)

Can anyone explain how this goes back together please

some of that goes on top of the steering wheel...which is missing

presume cup, big spring and the thingy with the hooks on is horn push or indeed all of it is

actually

1) thing with hooks on seems to have a column sized hole in it i think it goes first hooky bits up
2)followed by the collar with similar sized centre indent upwards to insulate what follows from the chassis or maybe steering wheel boss
3) followed by a similar diameter spring not sure which sitting in collar
4) then the big spring small end down around the collar
5) then the plate with the big hole on top of the large end of that spring
6) work out what the other narrow spring and the springsteel clip do

7) horn button must press either part5 or the stem from its bottom into something to complete circuit


hooky part may go above or below wheel provided hooky bits can still connect with the horn push and its hooks come round the spokes

ware or witness marks on wheel will show....

all just a guess

big spring and that big hole plate definitely sit together if the indented tabs fit the big end of the spring

knowing what is in the cup part of the horn push in respect to contacts and metal is key I think

looks like the thick coil small diameter spring goes below the wheel

1/4 turn anti clockwise to clip the horn push back in which fits with the orientation of the hooky bits on that plate

kinda suggests that plate goes in the boss of the wheel with the collar on top?

or maybe that collar just insulates the top of the fat spring you stuck down the hole and presses against the back of the wheel.

that makes more sense
1) bit more of a cab over design than a car
2) no collapsible tube
3) allows wheel to ride on the splines so if you hit steering box hard on something like a curb stone the wheel won't jump as hard and smash your fingers

so
fat coil spring
collar/insulator Chrylser wouldn't have a spring steel spring sitting against a pot metal wheel even if the spline section is different, unlike metals prompt corrosion...! but its most likely just to stop it rattling

then the rest of the gubbins is horn push



you'll need to experiment as the NUT needs to fit on the shaft and of course i forgot about that

but all just a guess

i think you need a workshop manual...

PS that nut seems to have a profile. does it fit the end of the thin wire spring?

in which case we know which way up the not goes and where the thin wire spring goes
