Watched a great vid last night. Footage of the 21st running of the Southern 500 at Darlington NC. 1970.

Love the pit stop at around 11.50 with Buddy Baker's 06 Daytona getting refuelled. I think about a gallon went over the trunk and the floor behind the car.
They even had a beauty pageant before the race.

Hi Stuart
Funnily enough I saw the same thing last night too , and could not believe how sloppy they crew where in refuelling the car , petrol all over the back on the ground and must have gone over the guy as well , and to think some of the drivers used to smoke !
Different world with the beauty pageant to start but a great documentary .

It's a shame Cale Yarbro' beached his Ford on the armco.
One thing that amazes me with Nascar in that period, they were obviously doing wind tunnel testing. Did no-one ever think 'I wonder if would be more aerodynamic with the side windows in' ?
I presume it's was in the regs that they need easy access in the event of an accident. Surely they could have come up with a side window that's easily removed?

Different world indeed... I don't think they'd be waving the confederate flag these days...guy whitwam wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 23 9:46 am Hi Stuart
