when I bought the Charger the hood turn signal repeaters weren’t fitted, but the previous owner did give me all the bits he had

turned out most of the important bits were there apart from the bulbs, bulb holders and hood wiring

so I set about making something up to substitute the missing bits

Image

used a capless bulb and soldered some tails on

Image

Image

Image

heat shrink holds it all together in the housing perfectly

Image

Image

used bullet connectors on the tails so I can easily replace a bulb in future

Image

cleaned up the housings and fitted to the hood

Image

ran some cable through the hood frame and located the correct wires just above the brake booster that appeared to have been abruptly terminated sometime in the past

bonnet pins turned out to be an easy fit

the pin goes in an existing hole by removing a fender / rad support bolt

and there’s already a hole in the hood frame in the correct place

Image

Image

using the old adage ‘measure twice, cut once’ I drilled the hood outer skin

finally bumper on and ready for another summer

in 2010 …

wheels

I was never 100% with the CragarSS I put on in 2006 …

http://www.moparuk.com/forums/viewtopic ... 8293#98293

the fronts in particular still looked a little lost

I had my eye on Torque Thrust D, I reckoned the grey centre would look good and compliment the body colour well

8.5” x 15 with 3.5” back space all round was my idea

I knew I could get 8.5” on the back no problem but would they go on the front without catching??

and I didn’t want to modify anything

I measured again and again and again, convinced it would work

decided to look for a 2nd hand set then if it didn’t work out I could just move them on, nothing lost

a pair came up on ebay, but I needed 4, by the time I realised I could just get the 2 put them on the front to test then get another 2 if ok, the ebay ad had ended, but unsold

I contacted the seller, he put me onto his brother who’s wheels they actually were and we did a deal, I couldn’t believe my luck, he had bought the pair new, tyres mounted but had never put them on the car, only sat them in the arches for axle positioning etc on a ‘50’s Consul he was building, he’d fallen out with the guy that owned the lock-up and the car had to be sold

around the same time my mate was arranging to go to Maidstone to drop off a car and collect another, the wheels were in Romford, so we picked them up on the way back

I tried them on the Charger at both ends with favourable results :D

convinced I wouldn’t find another 2nd hand pair in as new condition, I just placed an order with North Hants Tyres who had them on the shelf

Image

with all 4 rims to hand I had the tyres swapped over and voila, got the look I wanted ...

Image

... and some relief the original Daisy Mag order had failed in 2006, as that would have been an expensive mistake regarding the rim width I’m finally happy with

bumperettes next

when I got the Charger, the front bumperettes weren’t present

I’m sure I remember reading somewhere that not all cars had them??

I like them, they break up the horizontal lines of the chrome loop bumper, the grill and the valance with a little bit of vertical

searched for some time for a pair of ‘70 bumperettes, to no avail

occasionally ’69 pieces came up on ebay, I decided to take a punt, different bumper, different valance, what could go wrong

i got a decent driver quality pair

offering them up to the car I was pleasantly surprised that the bolt holes lined up ok

the only thing that was out was the profile of the bumperette where it joins the main bumper

next job was to fab the cross bar between the loop bumper support brackets, also missing on my Charger

the cross bar sits above the valance and supports the rear of each bumperette

a length of square bar fitted the bill with a couple of bolts welded in the correct position
