passenger door wasn’t shutting quite right

should probably change the hinge pins

but decided in the interim to lift the door a little by adjusting the top hinge

needed access to the top hinge inner bolt

to facilitate this, I decided to remove the glove box liner

which instantly turned to dust

a new glove box liner was procured from ..

https://www.ebay.com/str/musclemaniac5

my nephew very kindly hand carried it over from Texas, good lad

I should point out he was coming over anyway

Had to top up Charger’s coolant level a couple of times last year

With no evidence of any leaks, I promptly forgot about it

Then around August time I had cause to lift out the passenger side rubber floor mat and the carpet was damp underneath

Odd I thought, not been caught out in the rain for a couple of months

Yeah … you guessed it, leaky heater core

A quick look under the dash revealed tell-tale signs of moistness

I deployed a towel under the heater box for the fast few trips out last season

Bars Leaks or Radweld or dash out? I've found the former very good for a few years extra leak stopping.

b body non a/c heater box come out no problem at all

no need to remove the dash

i have taken the front seats out to make it easier

A couple of weeks ago I set to

Firstly under the hood …

Drained the coolant

disconnected the heater hoses

Lashed up a loop pipe so that I could put the coolant back in, in case I needed to run or move Charger before the heater was repaired

Heater cores available quite cheaply from rockauto. Have to tweak the pipes a little though to get a good fit . Maybe consider ordering a foam seal kit for when the heater’s apart?

my heater box looks just like yours right now, not had chance to catch up with photos on here :thumbright:

heater core, yes i've seen those, but i decided to get mine repaired, it had to be re-cored, and the radiator guy had to order the core in from Denmark, cost me twice as much as one of the RockAuto ones, he's made a loverly job of it though, shame it'll not be seen for another 50 years!!

also got a foam seal kit on the way over :salute:

There’s three bolts through the firewall that secure the heater box, removed without issue

Then inside the car, out with the seats

Lifted the carpet

The carpet and underfelt on the passenger side are trashed

Soaked in antifreeze

I could wash the carpet and replace the underfelt

But the carpet is pretty poor, not a loop carpet as it should be and very thin

Have ordered the correct carpet and a couple of other bits and pieces from Classic Industries

Currently on their way over via STS

The floors are in great shape

Light metallic green is the original color

Some light surface rust that I will treat

Reaching up under the dash disconnected the fan wiring, control cables and heater box support bracket

Heater box removed without issue

Wow, those floors look minty fresh! Given you live in one of the wettest places in the country, you are clearly looking after it well.

There was a couple of other issues with the heater aside from it leaking

It didn’t particularly emit a lot of heat, except on a hot day

Both defrost tubes from the heater box to the dash vents were missing

The heat / defrost flap was seized solid

The temp control flap was stiff to the point the cable had jumped off the lever

Good news; the fan worked great at all speeds

So as well as getting the heater core out, a complete strip down was on the cards
