gas tank

the gas tank was off 10 years ago when I had the trunk floor done

when it was off we noticed that the top of the tank was a little pin holed

not so bad as it sounds as the ’70 Charger tank has an expansion chamber at the top of the tank for the evap system

anyhoo, it was repaired with tank repair paste and all was good

a coat of stone chip and that’s how it’s been for 10 years …

when I bought the Charger the evap system was disconnected and capped off in the engine bay

I decided to go with a 68/69 tank for the replacement as it doesn’t have the evap chamber or the 4 connections to the charcoal canister in the trunk

the 68/69 to 70 tanks are externally identical, and you can get an extra gallon in :D

so off with the old …

the fuel gauge has never worked

with the previous autometer gauge or the restored original gauge

the gauges themselves are fine

I’ve tested the wiring from the back of the car and all’s good

this is why it never worked …

the sender device has been lashed up to an original pickup

but look at the position of the float, it would just sit on the bottom of the tank, it’s been fastened on upside down, it can’t move!!! FFS
