Ok, I guess I was being a tad optimistic asking for 12's. What I want is a fun car, that feels fast in a straight line. I'd like to 1/4 mile for fun and post respectable times. I'm sure I can throw some more cash into it later but £2k, a mechanic and a heated garage, is what I'll have this winter ...

They are 452 heads. I asked for advise and therefore, happy to receive it. I don't even mind a dig if it's constructive. lol.

You make a good point about the heads being the limiting factor though. I'm looking at the best way to spend my £2k to get the best power. I will no doubt throw far to ...

That is a great article and written by Steve Dulcich. I need to find the final part now. Thanks.

Thanks, the replies have been very helpful, especially the links.

I should have mentioned my budget will be around £2k. I'll be pulling the motor myself with help from a Mopar mechanic. Price is to include parts and machining. I was guesstimating £500 for Pistons, £300 for cam with the rest on ...

More Power!

Hi,
My 73 Charger does not yet live up to its name, it should be called a 73 Sluggish. However, I'm not prepared to give up on her just yet. Currently it runs a 400ci with Edelbrock performer intake/Edelbrock 750 cfm (Ported) and makes 260bhp through a 727 Torqueflite and 2.71:1 diff.

I am getting ...

Sorry for delay, didn't realise you had posted. I had the car dyno tuned at Atspeed in Rayleigh. Carb was re-jetted, spacer inserted, timing adjusted.

Tried the car this evening, started and drove lovely for about 20 miles. Stopped and started with no issues. ( Haven't touched it since it wasn't ...

Hi,

Yes, that is the one.

I am getting a spark, carb and timing have been professionally set up. Doesn't want to run. Cranks well, almost catches, but not quite.

A guy on a Facebook group is sending me a new engine ignition and ignition switch loom to try later this week.

I'm currently not ...

Mopar mechanic/magician required

Hello,

I have posted numerous times, on here and on Facebook, seeking advice to get my '73 Charger working reliably. I have tried testing/replacing everything I am able to do.

It is well into show season now and every weekend that goes by feels like a missed opportunity to drive my car and meet up ...

Well, the car needed no prompting to let me down again. In fact, the day after it ran with no issue it refused to start or even fire.

Today, if I keep cranking, the car begins to catch, slowly building up revs, (misfiring badly), usually ending in a loud backfire through the exhaust before it dies ...

I have tested continuity on all of the wires before and never found an issue. Of course, when applying current a weak spot such as broken wire or dry solder could inhibit current. I do worry about it failing again, having not identified the root of the problem. I guess a new loom may give piece of ...

Well, I think the problem may be sorted, certainly I'm closer than I was. I rebuilt the ignition system using some spares that I had tried previously, (without luck). Blow me, it fired up!! I took it out for a quick spin and it drove nicely, stopped and re-started OK.

Problem is, I don't know what ...

Yes, it does have a wire from the charging circuit into the loom for the module.

***Are you suggesting that I disconnect this wire? ***

It has an aftermarket Tach, but I have tried disconnecting it from the coil without success. Also, it used to run fine with the Tach connected.

Unfortunately, I ...

If the dizzy was 180' out, surely it would still fire, just at the wrong time. The dizzy has been out, but I'm 99% sure it went back the same as the engine had not been cranked, and I marked the position of the Rotor.

You are correct, the coil primary does not seem to get the interrupt signal as it ...

It's had my original Chrysler module, two brand new "standard" modules and a mystery module with "FSO or FSU" brand, (can't remember).

Module is bolted to firewall with no paint and has been earthed direct to battery.

I have an Accell & a brand new Mallory coil, both test good, (ohms & continuity)

Good earth lead Battery to Engine Block
Good engine earth to body

12v to ignition module
