The only real difference being that the Flaming river units have a cast iron case and so are heavier.
Firm feel also have a CI body.

steve, how come the manual is 'lighter' than a power steering unit. Is it due to the changed internal gearing?
I ask as i need to replace my box at some point and was going to stay with power, but now i'm wondering.

Really? Since when? This must be something recent.

I know they were struggling for cores. i wonder if they have a deal with the same foundry supplying Flaming River?

the manual steering units are smaller. They basically only have a worm gear and cross-shaft. A power box is much bigger (and longer) and has hydraulic pistons, valves etc.

I need to clarify, I read Steve's point as his mates Dart felt lighter to steer as opposed to the actual weight of the unit being less when manual.
I've driven my Dart without the power steering (threw a belt) and it felt like a bear!
