Valves

Another one from workshop for the extra help...

Lapped the valves last night, but this one at least is a problem.

Most were ok (some not brilliant, but ok) but don't think this bad boy is going to seat properly... cheapest place to get valves, anyone? Take it there is no problem replacing individual ones?

Found valves in the Real Steel catalogue, but there's 4 different types (Zorst.) I know the head diameter is 1.5", but the lengths are slightly different. So slightly different that I can't tell with a steel rule and I've left the calipers in my boot which the missus has taken to work.

Got part # BYA1589K 1.5" - 5.005 overall length (No spec on # of grooves

)
OR part # BYA1907 1.5" - 4.9825" overall length 4 groove.

Any idea which is needed or any light to shed at all, please?

Why don't you get yourself a factory workshop manual? It has all this stuff in it. Could be useful you know?

Got one Dave, but it's only as good as the understanding of the bloke reading it!

Besides, the board see's little enough activity as it is sometimes, so at least my dumb questions will give something to read.

Anyway, now I'm turtley confused.

That reckons neither of those lengths is right.

And my other book reckons they only come in single, double and triple groove.

I'm sure counting hasn't changed since i was at school, so I'm sure the one I've got here is 4 groove!

Here it is.

Just spoke to a very nice fella at Specialised Auto Parts in Yeovil (Thank's for the tip off, Anton!

) who has them on the shelf, but he says (quote) that he "seems to remember Mopar buggering about with the keeper grooves, so they come in single or triple."

But this shows four, or is it me being particularly dumb?

Stu look at the collet and see how many ridges it has on it and that may help

Length. 4.90" to center of valve face.

The valve face will be concave so you will have to subtract the depth of the face from the total length.

Will have to I guess, Anton. But I've got a funny feeling the bag of collets was with the calipers last time I saw them...

I've left the calipers in my boot which the missus has taken to work.

Or rather, add the face depth to the 4.90. Then compare that to what is on offer.

D'oh! Of course! Hadn't thought about the fact that it was concave on the face, cheers Dave.

THere you go you see, they don't say that in the book, do they!

Replacement arriving tomorrow.
