To eliminate the brake booster remove the vac hose from the booster and take it for a drive. i the diaphram is slit int he booster that will give a massive air leak when you appy the brakes.
To rule out a car wiring issue wire the ignition module straight to the battery with a toggle switch in the car and test drive it.

10 vacuum at idle seems very low unless you have a large cam installed. Dereks and Mine are around 17 - 19 at idle. Check for vacuum leaks. At 10 vacuum your brake booster wont be working any way they need about 13 to work.

The way I set the kickdown as a starting point is to hole the throttle a WOT and then push the kickdown rod back till it stop and then bring it forwar about a 1/4 inch and adjust to to fit the carb at WOT. This way is wont bottom out and the you can make small adjustment to get it to shift where you want.

I believe your first port of call is the booster leak. Simple to eliminate.
If you have any questions call me.

Thanks Anton. We've been round the carb and the manifold to check for leaks but haven't found anything yet. Even sprayed that check valve on the booster and that didn't make a difference.

Are you suggesting a split diaphragm in the booster could be the cause of the engine cutting out? I spose it is only when we're using the brakes :-k

But we first noticed that 'wheezing' noise when applying the brakes when we got the car back on the road 18 months ago, and it wasn't cutting out then :?

EDIT - Just checked with Stu and we reckon the best thing to do would be:

Warm the car up in the garage and apply the brake, put in drive to see if it stalls. If it does, then disconnect the booster hose & plug it. Then see if it happens again just sitting in garage.

Worth a try – before going out in the snow with no brakes

Thanks Anton, that would be a good test to see if that's where the vac leak is :thumbright:

Anton has been busy again, building Lee's Mustang engine and making Don's tubs a little bigger.

And another couple, the Anglia is having a Harris built engine put in to it, sadly it's only a four pot, lots of other work has to be done to the car too.

And another one arrives for work, Sam's Dart, what a pain in the butt it is to fit headers to an A body, but it will be worth it in the end..................How do you guys with a big block get on fitting headers in an A body.

And yes Matt you are right.
