We've lost our Brooklands event

Post by Derek »

After 11 years and a lot of hard work we are not welcome at Brooklands to put on our own show

Thank's to the mindless Bananaramas! doing burnouts at Brooklands and a member of the public arguing and shouting at Brooklands staff at the gate we have now lost our event there in May 2015 and they don't want us back again.

First off a member of the public was told he could not come in through The Campbell gate as it was for Classic car only, he thought it would be a good idea to start swearing at the gate staff........................After about an hour when he had cooled down they let him in through the Public gate, to me that was a mistake.

Secondly one of the Chrysler 330c lot thought it would be a good idea to do a burnout at the bottom of the hill on his way out, I was on my way over to him when he left but he was gone to quickly, he was stopped by staff at the top of the hill who gave him a Bananarama!, he told them "we do it where ever we go, it's expected of us" , what a Bananarama!.

Then I'm told we had a Red Mustang fastback doing burnouts down by the planes where Concorde used to sit, at one point he nearly lost it and nearly hit a member of the public, along with him was a yellow 68 Charger, ( not sure if he is a member ), both doing burnouts on the way out.

All of this has helped Brooklands say we are not wanted back ant more.

Donna the events manger fort our case for us with her bosses as she said they wont speak to me.

The arguing at the gate could happen any day of the week, the Chrysler 300c lot phoned Brooklands to ask if they could come to our event and was told yes by Brooklands, they were not invited by the MMA, and I'm not sure if the Mustang and Charger owners are members.

Below are the pics are the offending cars, does any one know who owns what, you have these people to thank for the loss of Brooklands, If you know them please tell them.

Thats a real shame Derek and Im sure everyone is appreciative of all the efforts you and others have made to try to keep this going. I never managed to get to this event but looked great. We lost a monthly meet at the Black Boy pub in Solihull as a result of burnouts etc....was a great meet and pity its gone now. There is a time and place for this stuff...

I feared the worst when I saw those burnouts, Derek, after the trouble we had a few years ago when someone did a burnout up near the entrance on the old, original track surface.

Saddened, but not too surprised, unfortunately :(

Idiots all. I've posted this on the MOCGB forum, as someone may recognise the Mustang.

also seems to be a bit of a knee jerk reaction when as you say the only people the MMA is slightly responsible for are the Charger/Mustang

idiot member of the public and a55hole in 300C were invited in by Brooklands.

so the two most visible (and or involving brooklands staff), and most likely to cause offence type issues where in the main part the fault of Brooklands own staff.

we have to assume mr yellow charger and the Red mustang are not members

because we all know how to behave......

idiots, its at times like this you wish for mechanical failure...they can't escape as easily then.

Mind regardless one has to assume the financials are pretty good for the museum, we all paid to get in and have lunch and rolled pennies we'd saved with the mebership card into the collection boxes.

That is really sad. :(

I suppose really as a club we should have made the "no burnouts" rule very clear to MMA members as there are probably many that were not even members or do not remember the fallout the last time this happened.

But you can't warn or control non-members and it would be unfair of Brooklands management to hold this club responsible for anyone they have let in themselves.

It was time to find a new venue and move on anyway I think.

Dave, I beg to differ, we had over 1300 paying public through the gate and around 150 cars, everyone that I spoke to said how much they enjoyed it and would be back next year.

I'm still going to try and keep us there, not just sure how.

This is the only event that The MMA put on, if we can't get back in I will look for somewhere else, Maderia Drive Brighton Maybe ( NA, to dear to hire that place)

And the club gets that money? Or just a free venue?

Just a free venue Dave, at the beginning we used to get £1 for every car through the gate, should have been £1 for every person but i think they were going to have to give us a lot of money.

It's a great venue but maybe as a club we could do better. Worth a think I would have thought. There are other car museums.

Drawback would be more organisation required and finding a venue that would gamble on a cut of the takings rather than wanting a large fee. So probably a non starter unless you found somewhere cheap.

Maybe you just need to give the Brooklands people time to cool off. Then see if they will talk.

You have done a great job with this event Derek and I can understand why you would feel like you got a kick in the balls by these idiots.

I also joined the Chrysler 300c forum yesterday, I posted on there too and this is what I got back.

First of all let me say I am distressed to read that several individuals have had such a detrimental impact to your event and your relationship with the Brooklands management.

I wanted to advise you that I moved your original thread to a moderation area to facilitate a discussion by staff here at 300CForums.com without the distraction of a wide range of comments regarding the actions of others, most of whom are not members of this group. I also deleted the duplicate thread a few moments ago as it is our policy that one thread is sufficient on the subject.

I do know that Bananarama! Bananarama! is a member here, hence the moderation action at this time.

I will advise you on the status of the thread once staff has had an opportunity to discuss the issue.

Again, my condolences on the issue with the staff at Brooklands. I hope you are able to reach some accommodation after staff at Brooklands has taken some time to re-consider your event's continued use of their facilities and how the actions of a few unaffiliated hooligans impacts the larger, more respectful, group you represent.

I wonder whether the idiots will try to come to Mopar Nats at Santa Pod, they shouldn't be allowed to attend as they can't be trusted. When will these idiots understand that people work hard to put these events on for their benefit of those that attend, both those with their cars and the public that like our cars. Just imaging if this prick ran someone over, it could have repercussions for other events where muscle cars are currently welcomed. I hope this guy fesses up or at least his club name and shame him. If the Charger owner is in the MMA then he gets banned, simples
