Comments like these are often born out of blind ignorance .. I drive both cars and bikes and so see all things from many different angles. There's a place for going fast wether it's a car or bike but having lost bike mates through car drivers on mobile phones recently makes it hard to swallow ... I think we all need to be that bit more careful... And vigilant

I'm with Ade, when I'm on a mission I ride as fast as humanly possible.
To go along with a tiny bit of Andy's logic I'm very aware of the risks I take, if I'm riding quick I don't expect any other road used to look out for me, my survival depends entirely on my reactions and awareness. That's all part of the thrill- testing yourself to the limit. Dry stone walls, huge drops and oncoming traffic all add to the fun :thumbright:

The reason I call Andy a tit for his stupid ignorant bigoted view is because he seems to think ALL motorcyclists ride like me and Ade and therefore deserve to die.

Without quoting govt statistics , I know for a fact that most motorcycle casualties involving another vehicle are caused by driver error rather than rider. As a biker myself , as soon as I throw me leg over the bike I become " invisible" to other road users , and ride almost with a sixth sence. Bikers have no distractions such as phones and kids fighting in the back seat , and as a result are far more aware of their surroundings.
Yes I ride fast. If I feel it is safe to do so , normally on a road which is known to me and has no immediate dangers such as side turnings or a bad road surface , but you always expect the unexpected.
Apart from the joy of riding it is also a very cheap and reliable form of transport ,if it wasn't for bike paramedics I'm sure a lot of people in city areas would not be alive today. Not forgetting the blood runners which consists totally of volunteers.
Yes. There is a small minority of dick head riders , but these normally end up in trees etc with the only death being their own due to their own stupid actions.
I feel sorry for people like Andy who have a very blinkered view on things in life , and will miss out on opportunities due to this.

I posted up David's story as I feel BOTH parties were at fault.
The rider was riding too fast in an area not safe to do so.
The driver should have seen the bike , it was a straight road with clear visibility.

I've always maintained that if you ride/drive like everyone else is a Bananarama! then you minimise your chances of becoming collateral damage, it's served me well, I'm now 56 with only a couple of big offs & a similar number of broken bones, if you are going to do nearly 100mph on a single carriageway with junctions you need to plan so far ahead & as I was taught by a former rally driver, you should always be thinking of an escape route should you need to take evasive action.
You can't have too much power, only a lack of traction!

Can I just take this opportunity to say that it is the yearly charity Essex ride out tomorrow in support of the Essex Air Ambulance.
So if you are driving / riding in Essex be aware there may be delays from Laindon to Harwich.
Thanks. :thumbright:

I can see both sides to this discussion

But what I don't like to see is sports bikes been driven at stupid stupid speed

That young lad who got killed in front of me on in the new forest was doing over 85 mph, in a 40 limit. Trees just two feet from the edge of the road and wild ponies, pigs and cows stepping out everywhere.

Fast is one thing but why do so many bikers have to go not just above but well beyond.

We all do a bit over the limit but why do so many, granted not all, take it just too far.

Each to their own and so be it I guess

Think like many its adrenalin.......there is something about planting your foot/wrist on a very powerful vehicle.

No doubt the more you do it the more confident and more risks you take.

I would love a bike but the cost and the risks are not something I would take on in this country, with the sheer volume of traffic and the quality of driving!

Must be immense to be out in Wales doing the Brecons early on a Sunday morning in Summer! 8-)
