Another New Member saying Hi

Post by Glen63 »

Hi All

Just want to introduce myself to everybody, joined a couple of weeks ago when I got my 68 Charger home, now safely tucked up in the garage waiting for me to do all the jobs needed to get her first MOT and registration. Bought her from a dealer in the Netherlands who had just imported from US, so has not been registered yet in Europe.

1968 Charger with 318ci Engine, all matching numbers engine, gearbox, axle etc. all the steel is original as best I can tell, a very unmolested car with original interior in metallic blue. I even managed to get the original steel wheels and hubcaps sent back to me from USA this week, as they had been taken off by the dealer in USA when he fitted new chrome wheel this year. The first owner ticked a lot of the options list even though he went for the 318ci so she has factory AC, Radio with twin rear speakers option, power brakes, power steering, centre console, smokers pack, tinted blue glass all round, wheel lips, 50/50 buckets seats, factory underseal.

I have all the original paperwork to go with the car, build sheet, dealers invoice, owners manual, bills of sale, even the Certicard in the Owners manual is still there. Also got Midas lifetime warranty on the twin exhaust system they fitted in 84, but might be a long way to go back for warranty claims !!!

As you can gather I like my cars stock and very original, so really pleased to get this one before anything has been done to her.

Reason for getting a Charger (As if anybody needs a reason to buy a Charger !!!) I had one before back in the 80 when I was only 19, a 1970 318ci SE with white vinyl roof, metallic blue interior and orange paint work, can you see a pattern here !!! Anyway I only had for 9 months and then I rolled her outside Epsom hospital and wrote the car off, I know, I know what the hell were you doing you idiot. That is a story for another day, but I think I had never really finished the love affair with that car, so it was time to get back to my youth and this time drive a little slower !!

Other American cars from my past, 1973 Cougar Convertible, 1959 2 Door Desoto Fireflight.

Sorry to ramble on, but thought I might as well get all the car stuff and my history out in one go. Have a few questions I need to ask, but will post them as separate post, to keep thing tidy.

Will be good to meet up with local members here in Suffolk and Norfolk, may have to wait for better weather before the Charger comes out to play.

Regards

Adrian

Hi Adrian and welcome to the club, lovely Charger you have there, I see you have quite a menagerie of vehicles, couple of Jags too, few Jag fans on here, especially the MK2. I know your going to make a certain other new member jealous with the Charger, its just what he's looking for.

Hi

Yes the Jaguar MK2 is pretty mad, it is setup as a rally car at the moment, was rallyed in Ireland in the 90s by Ronnie McCartney and raced in the 80s in the MK2 events that were around then. Not sure why I have it, just like it and neighbour was selling it.

I am going to try and use it for some hill climb events next year I think, although it does have a MOT, so could always bring it to get together, but she does drink the petrol !!

Yes the Charger will be staying as original as I can keep her, am even thinking of putting original steel wheels and hubcaps back on.

But the chrome one do look good as well, so not rushing into that decision.
