Nuclear races.

Post by Mossy68 »

Hi all.

My lovely wife Andrea has decided now is a good time to give something back to the people who gave so much to our family through a tough time
Therefore , she has decided to do a gruelling 12 K assault course to raise money for Great Ormand Street children's hospital.

http://nuclear-races.co.uk/

As most of you know our son Bradley had a successful removal of a spinal tumour back in July 2011 .
Brad still has yearly x rays and MRI scans to check for re growth , which thankfully so far have been clear.

I sincerely hope no one here will ever need to visit Gt Ormand street ,so you will just have to take my word that there is no place better ,if specialist help is needed.
From cleaners to consultants , every single member of staff are wonderful , and we will never be able to thank them enough for their care and support throughout.

But. Every little helps ,which is why Andrea has decided to put herself through the Nuclear race so this great place can continue to give care and support to those who need it in the future.

I happened to drive past the site of the event today , and must say the parts I could see looked very intimidating !!!!

So. If you feel you would like to make a small donation to a great cause ,which would be greatly appreciated here is Andrea's just giving link.

Thanks. Gary

Ps . Those who make a donation will receive a pm with a dirty pic of my wife ! ;)

Sorry mate. Just seen this.
Really appreciate your support.

Quick update.

Andrea has been training 2 nights a week , and 1 day (weekend). Every second weekend has been an outdoor event with her " team "
Saturday was 8k which consisted of running , walking and obstacles.
She struggled with breathing control , I would imagine due to different speeds , obstacles etc.
bruised tired and aching Sunday.
Luckily it was Mother's Day so lots of pampering !
She's adding an extra evening during the week as from today.

That's my girl ! :)

Out side training today.
Chucking it down with rain and gale force winds didn't stop Andrea.
A 6.4K run with obstacles and also stopping for push ups , sit ups etc. then on to a local cycling club for a 2K flat out round the Tarmac track. !!!
Scared her a bit as it was so windy , and the track is quite hilly.
Think she still enjoyed it though !!!!

£495 raised so far.

Thanks again for your generous donations chaps.

Doh .............
Training session today , and a bad landing off the monkey bars has left Andrea with a very bruised and swollen foot and ankle.
Dr Mossy prescribed 20 minute warm and ice cold pack intervals. If still bad in the morning it's A&E !!!!

3 weeks to Nuclear race !

Thanks Pete.
She's avoiding A&E as conformation of a fracture would destroy all the hard work she has put in. Although adamant she will do it anyway !!!
I feel for her , as her upper strength is her weak point as regards to the race , and she has really been pushing herself to gain strength.
Fingers crossed its only minor.

As for Duxford.
I got my new Mopar T shirt this morning. Held it up saying how good it looked. I got the raised eyebrow !!!
" yep. I'm a geek " was my defence.
" no. Your not a geek. It's an old mans thing " was the reply.
Bananarama! cheek !!!!
She has never and will never match my stamina !!!!

So. In answer to your question. I doubt it !

So. A&E this morning confirmed ..................

<img src="" alt="Uploaded with Imgupr">

...............nothing broken. Yay !!!!!
But. Badly sprained.
Nothing strenuous for a week , then slowly increasing activity.
Should be ok for the race , but may have to wear an ankle support !

So. After a week of sports physio ( expensive things to keep these athletic types !!!) ,Andrea foot is looking much better.
So much so that she ran a 10k on flat ground yesterday.
Race is Saturday , so lots of prep this week.

Thanks again to those who have shown support. Some ( maybe from here ?) have wished to remain anonymous which is fine ,as long as they don't want to see a dirty pic ! :D
Fingers crossed for a injury free week and rainy Saturday !!!

Thanks gang. Gary. :thumbright:
