Driver side front wing needed a lot more repair than the other as we already had a replacement. Only prob with the pass side was/is that it's off a 68, so Steve had to cut out the side marker area from the original and graft it in place of the replacement's.

Was trying to keep it in date order but thats gone a bit pear shaped.
Not many left tho so bear with me..

Gettin some paint (ok, primer) on at last.

And engine gettin tarted up too.

Did want to stick with the original colour but Steve was reluctant to use metallics cos he didnt have access to an oven. Any painters out there - was this just an excuse or a good reason?
So we looked for a colour that we thought would go well with the vinyl, and ended up with a Vauxhall dark blue that was deep enough to have a sort of deep, metallic feel.

fitted the headers with paper on to stop the aluminium coated headers getting dirty! Sounds a bit tarty but if youve ever seen that coating you'll know how easily they get dirty. It's like a white sandpaper that youd never get oily handprints off

At last!! :hello1:

At the time we thought 8 months was a long time, but hearing how long some club members have had to wait, and considering Steve had to do a lot of other bread & butter jobs (eg insurance repairs) as well, dont think he/we did too bad.
Okay, its not a concourse resto but still a lot of work for 1 man and a couple of weekend helpers.

1st proper outing for the car after all that work was a classic & american type show at Lee Valley, Waltham Abbey, Essex.
Cruised down there with Tony Walden in his 69 RR (RRX972X). Felt good having a car that didnt look out of place with its hood up.

Plenty more good pics (IMHO!) from this event which I'll post separately

God that is spooky Kev! Got so many pics over the years of our car, its strange to see some different ones!
Could well have been the same meet, at least another in 85 or 86 cos I think we had the centrelines after that.
Used to have to jack up the rear using the air shocks and by changing the fixing holes on the leaf spring rear hangers so that the tyres didnt rub, especially on trips to the Pod cos of all the camping stuff, as you can see in those pics Kev!

See you took a pic of Pauls Chrysler, you into 4dr aussies back then too?

Well, Mal. Wouldve been some profit if we hadnt spent at least what its worth now (around £10k according to Tony O).
If we'd spent a bit more at the time and got a Roadrunner (I remember one going for £2200 around that time), and managed to get one in good nick that wouldnt have needed a bunch spending on it over the years, then we may heve been onto a winner.
But what the hey, it's a good job we're not into it to make a profit!
