Help needed in shipping an item over from the US please!!

Post by danny_duke01 »

Hi,
I have bought a Police lightbar in the US for my cop car replica. It is all paid for but i never realized how much the shipping was going to cost to the UK. The lightbar has been fully bubble wrapped and has had a wooden crate made for shipping. The bit that shocked me is the shipping quotes. UPS want $1374 and DHL want $1029!! These are the quotes the seller has given me. Does anyone please know of a cheaper shipping option or is there anyway of sharing a container with someone that may be shipping a vehicle over?? I was a bit naive with this as did not have a clue what it would cost...i thought $400-$500 tops. I have been told it ways 61lbs.
Thanks in advance for any help!! :thumbright:

Speak to Ron Fenton on here, he brings containers in regularly from Florida to Essex, he will be able to help you out.

Yeah i thought those were crazy prices too!!
The lightbar has had a wooden crate made for it to be shipped over in and the dimensions are 59x20x15 inches and it weighs 61 lbs.
All been sorted now with Ron Fenton anyway!! :thumbright:

'Classic industries' i think it was.
I was in conversation with Ron Fenton about it ( i was planning to have them shipped overland to his container) which was about $100 plus Rons ( very reasonable) fee. When they quote me 200 for air to uk I spoke with Ron about it and he advised me to go for that - we couldnt quite believe it was right.
Anyway, 3 days later they arrived - 6ft box that weighted half a ton. Go figure... I will dig out the invoice, find out who the carrier was. It was one of the biggies though I think.
Oh, and big thumbs up for Ron. How straight is that ? Advises a customer to ship another method when he thinks its the best solution. top chap.
